I. Stem

The stem of hound's tongue is single, or several clustered together, densely covered with appressed short pubescence, and it can grow to about 15-60cm.

II. Leaves

The basal leaves have long petioles and are oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate; including the petiole, they can grow to about 5-30cm, with a width of about 1.5-4cm. The stem leaves are lanceolate or oblong, without petioles, and the lateral veins are very obvious.

III. Flowers

The flowers of hound's tongue are blue, with rounded lobes about 2.5mm long, and the reticulate veins are very obvious. The style is linear-cylindrical, and its length is similar to that of the calyx. The filaments are about 0.5mm long, inserted at the middle of the corolla tube, and the anthers are oblong, about 1mm long. The pedicels are about 2-3mm long, and they become somewhat longer in the fruiting stage.
