The tough summer has passed in a flash, and the bleak autumn has arrived. It is once again a good time to grow succulents. There is no need to feel sad about succulents that died in summer, as you can buy more in autumn. There is no need to feel sad about succulents that grew leggy in summer, as they can grow back in autumn.

1. You can go crazy buying succulents now

We all know that it is very difficult for succulents bought in summer to establish themselves, and if you are not careful, the succulents you just bought will die. Autumn is different. Succulents you buy can generally survive just by being tossed into soil. But the necessary root trimming and root drying still cannot be omitted.

2. Watering must be controlled well

Some succulent growers restrict water or even cut off water completely for their succulents in summer, while of course others water normally. Everyone has their own method. For those who restricted water or cut off water, after the climate becomes cooler, it is recommended not to water thoroughly right away for the first one or two waterings. The amount of water should be gradually restored, giving the succulent root system a period to adapt, so as to avoid increasing the chance of rot turning to mush. Wait until the succulents have adapted to the environment before giving them a heavy watering. That means you can follow "do not water until dry, water thoroughly once completely dry."

3. Fertilizing must be limited

After autumn begins, succulents are no longer dormant. This is exactly a good period for succulents to put on growth, so at this time sufficient fertilizer needs to be supplemented.

If the succulents were just planted this year and were planted in nutrient soil, then there is no need to fertilize again. Too much fertility easily causes leggy growth. For fertilizing, it is best to use pure plant-based organic fertilizer, rich in and balanced in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, with various organic matter, minerals, and amino acids added, to promote succulent growth and make the plants strong.

4. Anti-rot work must be done well

Through the hardships of summer, some succulents have already gone to the Western Paradise, and the succulents that survived also have many more dead leaves. It is necessary to remove the dead leaves, so that in autumn excessive watering or air that is too humid does not cause the dead leaves to rot, which in turn causes the succulents to rot. Rotten succulent plants appear faded and softened. If you find a rotting succulent, at this time you need to cut it off as soon as possible. It is best to disinfect the tools that have been used to avoid infecting other plants.

5. Increase light

In summer, in order for succulents to get through the summer better, we generally move them indoors. Because of the high temperatures and poor light, some succulents grow leggy. Autumn has arrived, so you can move the succulents out to increase light, but do not move them directly under the sun to bake all at once. A sudden change in environment will make it impossible for the succulents to adapt. First move them to a place with scattered light for transition, generally about five days is enough.

Growing succulents is meticulous work. You need enough patience and must not rush for quick results. You need to understand the habits of succulents to grow them well.
