Don't overwater your succulents: water them this way and they will grow strong

Watering is a very complex matter, and many factors affect it: for example, the size of the plant, the species, the local climate and environment, which season it is (spring, summer, autumn or winter), the soil mix, the material and size of the pot, and the air circulation. Set these complex factors aside for now, and just as with mixing soil, work out a few of the most basic points, water in a general way, and refine things once you know more about your plants.
Step one: keep up the watering frequency for seedlings, especially in the first few months when their roots have just started growing in contact with the soil surface, and be sure to pay attention to how often and how much you water, because at that time the soil surface dries out very easily.
Step two: choose how to water. In the evening you can use a spray bottle to water by misting. With misting, the leaves of the plant absorb water very easily, but be careful not to leave standing water on the leaves.
Step three: keeping a ventilated growing environment is very important. If the plant has too much water and the ventilation is poor, the stem of the plant rots easily, and the roots also run the risk of fungal growth.
Step four: when the seedlings have grown big enough, they need to be repotted. Transplant the small seedlings into large pots to support their continued growth. When transplanting, put them in a warm place for about 48 hours, and do not water during this period.
Step five: as the plant grows bigger day by day, it needs continued watering at this point, and the amount of water can be somewhat reduced, keeping the potting soil moist. When the plant needs to go dormant, water less at that time.
Choosing watering tools

In the vigorous growing seasons of spring and autumn, provided the roots are healthy, it is recommended to use a large container to soak the pot: the water level in the container should be slightly below the pot, so the plant can drink its fill. Or slowly water a pot with a drainage hole at the bottom, letting the medium absorb water fully until water runs out of the bottom of the pot.
In winter and summer, for plants that grow slowly or are dormant, you can use a long-spout watering can to water a small amount along the edge of the pot, and stop as soon as water just begins to run out of the bottom of the pot, or before it does.
For the trailing, non-plump types mentioned above, or for succulents grown from leaf cuttings, stem cuttings or seed, you can also use a spray bottle to mist them now and then to increase the air humidity.
Choosing containers for succulents
Succulent containers
It is best to use a container with a hole in the bottom. If you need to use a container without a bottom hole, such as glass, on an indoor desktop, be sure to put a layer of large particles such as clay pebbles at the bottom to increase air permeability.
Small plants (the hidden meaning being small root systems) go in small pots, and large plants go in large pots. This way you can control the amount of water and prevent water from being unable to drain away once the plant has absorbed enough.
Choose the container according to the ventilation. The better the ventilation, the more freely you can choose the pot; with poor ventilation, you should choose a pot with good air permeability. In order from best to worst air permeability: clay pots, ceramic pots, purple clay pots, porcelain pots, glass pots. Plastic pots with holes in the sides, such as air-pruning pots, also have much better air permeability.
