Today's flower shops have many beautiful varieties, and the prices are steep too. You buy them, put them in a vase, and after a few days they're gone. It's really a shame not to take these flowers that cost several hundred yuan and try propagating them by cuttings. Huahua has a bold idea - let's give cuttings a try!

Propagating fresh-cut European roses by cuttings

Actually, the so-called "roses" in flower shops are all Chinese roses (Rosa chinensis). The bright red Carola is very famous - easy to grow and resistant to pests and diseases. Cut a few branches and give it a try; if they root, they can bloom again in 2 months!

When the temperature is above 28°C, try water propagation:

1、

Pick fresh flower branches,

Cut off the flower, leave one leaf for photosynthesis, cut the base of the branch at an angle, then put it in a bottle filled with water mixed with rooting powder.

2、

Change the water every 3-4 days, and in about a week roots will start to appear. At this point, don't rush things - continue water propagation to stabilize the roots.

3、

After more than half a month of water propagation, once the roots are stable, you can transplant them into flower soil. The soil here is best if it's loose sandy soil. After planting, be sure to water thoroughly to settle the roots.

When the temperature is below 25°C, you can propagate directly in soil:

1、

First cut the flowers into short branches 8-10 cm long, preferably at an angle, which helps the flowers absorb nutrients.

2、

Gardeners who have rooting powder at home can first soak the cuttings in rooting powder solution for 20 minutes, then let them air dry for 2 hours.

3、

After drying, you can insert them into moist flower soil. Note that after cutting, they should be placed in a shaded area at home. Observe for 3-5 days - if they still look perky, they may be rooting.

4、

Any cutting either lives or dies, so be sure to cut more branches. Let's look at successful cases from fellow gardeners - "roses" that bloomed after cutting are no less beautiful than bought ones!

Propagating lisianthus by cuttings

Lisianthus, often used as a filler flower, has extremely high ornamental value, and its cutting survival rate is also high. Won't you give it a try?

1、

Lisianthus has long stems, so you can cut them into many small sections of 5-8 cm. Note that each section should have a node (the joint where leaves grow), and it's even better if it has a pair of leaves.

2、

Insert the lisianthus branches directly into moist flower soil - regular flower soil or sandy soil that promotes rooting will both work. Don't expose them to the sun for the first few days, and spray water frequently to maintain the surrounding air humidity. They're very easy to keep alive.

3、

After about 3-5 days, check if the leaves still look perky. If so, you can try giving them morning sunlight. Soon, small buds will emerge from between the leaves.

4、

Continue giving them morning sunlight and water every 3-4 days. The small buds will gradually grow and get taller, while the original old leaves will naturally turn yellow and wither - this is normal.

5、

After autumn begins, lisianthus can be placed on a south-facing balcony or windowsill for care. Water every 3-5 days. They don't need any nutrients and can bloom in 1 month. Aren't they even more beautiful than bought ones?

Propagating carnations by cuttings

Carnations are the fresh flowers we're most familiar with, with so many beautiful colors. If you still don't know they can be propagated by cuttings, you're really missing out!

1、

Cut the carnation stems into small sections at least 5 cm long, just keep the leaves on them.

2、

First water the flower soil, then insert the carnation branches. Keep them indoors away from sunlight. Wait about 3 days and check - if they haven't wilted, that's a good sign.

3、

When propagating carnations by cuttings, don't pull them out to check - just keep your hands off. As long as the small seedlings look perky, they're alive. You can give them some sunlight appropriately, water every 3-5 days, and in half a month they'll grow quite a bit.

4、

Once the carnations have taken root, they can bloom in about 1-2 months. If you've propagated many and many have survived, you can absolutely cut them and give them as gifts~
