Kalanchoe has a good meaning and a long flowering period, so it should be a must-have flower at home. Actually, Kalanchoe is quite easy to grow, but if you want to grow a beautiful Kalanchoe, we need to learn to give it a "haircut." Now it is early September, still a good time for a "haircut," so seize the moment to give your Kalanchoe a "hairstyle" - prune early and it will bloom early.
Kalanchoe enters the early bud stage in mid-to-late October, and flower lovers who take good care of theirs already have buds showing. So if you have not pruned yet, hurry up and prune.
Branches that are too tall, yellowed or withered must be cut off
The pruning target for Kalanchoe is generally branches taller than 12cm; branches that are too tall cannot get enough nutrients and also affect the appearance. In addition, yellowed and withered branches, as well as branches in dense areas, should all be pruned off, so as to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.
Keep the pruned branches within 12cm in length; since autumn is now the flowering period, it is not recommended to prune too short. This height can well retain a considerable portion of the leaves, and these leaves can photosynthesize well, which not only meets the needs of growth but also prepares for the flowering period.
"Pinching" young seedlings preserves nutrients
For some relatively small seedlings, do not prune; you can pinch them instead, so they grow short and bushy, and this also preserves nutrients well, providing the nutrients needed during the flowering period. But in mid-to-late October, do not pinch anymore, because by then they have entered the early bud stage, and pinching will affect them.
After the "haircut," care is needed
After pruning, you still need to take good care of it. Kalanchoe does not need much care, nor is it as difficult as other flowers. In autumn, Kalanchoe begins to enter its growing period, so it needs proper watering - just water thoroughly once every 2-3 days. Apply a nutritionally complete decomposed fertilizer once every 15-20 days.
You can also directly apply a general microbial fertilizer for flowers; the effect is better than decomposed fertilizer, it is easier to absorb, and it can also promote flowering. In addition, keep Kalanchoe in sufficient light, so as to better stimulate flower bud growth.
