In summer, some gardeners' succulents were scorched by the sun into a pile of shriveled dead leaves, and it was heartbreaking to see the little succulents "ravaged" down to almost nothing. Despite careful care every day, they still could not protect the poor little succulents, letting them die under the sun. Now that it is autumn, you can take some succulents that were not dried out by the sun and use this method to grow a whole patch.

This method is cuttings, which everyone is surely familiar with. As for the method of leaf cuttings for succulents, some gardeners do not quite understand it. In order for succulents to grow healthily and produce new leaves, today Xiaohu will explain the method of soil cuttings for succulents, hoping it will be helpful to everyone.

Step 1: "Choosing leaves" has its rules

There are rules for choosing leaves. You cannot just casually pull off a leaf and use it. Some leaves are not suitable for cuttings. For example, thin leaves have relatively little space inside, so they cannot store much nutrients and water. If used for cuttings, they will wither within a few days, let alone take root.

Thick leaves have more space and store more, so during cuttings they are less likely to wilt from lack of water. Therefore, when choosing leaves, choose thicker ones, preferably ones that feel very plump to the touch.

Step 2: "Cutting leaves" should be gentle and slow

After choosing the leaves, it is time to start cutting them. The tool can be scissors or a small blade, then soak it in freshly boiled water for 2 minutes and take it out. When cutting, gently pinch the leaf with one hand, then slowly cut with the small blade. The movements should be gentle to avoid damaging other leaves.

Step 3: "Potting medium" should be breathable

The soil should be loose and breathable. River mud, river sand and crushed dead leaves can be mixed in a ratio of 1:1:1. If only river mud is used, it will have some stickiness and drainage will not be very good. Before mixing, the river mud should be dried in the sun, then put on gloves and mix the river sand and crushed dead leaves with it.

Step 4: "Leaf cuttings" should be done with care

When doing leaf cuttings for succulents, insert the lowest part of the leaf into the soil, keeping a distance of 2-3 cm between leaves. This can prevent the roots from becoming tangled together when the succulents take root, and succulents need a certain amount of space to grow. If they are too close together, it is instead unfavorable for growth.

After succulent cuttings, they can generally take root in about 10 days. At this time, gardeners must hold back the urge to fertilize them. Because at this point the succulents are still very fragile, and their absorption function is not yet fully developed. If you want to fertilize, you must wait at least 1 month.

When the leaves are as big as a fingernail, you can use a nutrient solution specially made for succulents, spraying once about every 10 days, diluting each use with water at 1000 times, and then more little succulents can grow!

The above is the method for succulent leaf cuttings. If your own succulents have also been dried out by the sun until almost nothing is left, you can try this method.
