Good news has arrived!

A 6.5-kilometer greenway encircles Moon Lake

Wuhan's "most beautiful living room" is set for a stunning transformation!

Wuhan Moon Lake Park, located by Moon Lake in Hanyang District, Wuhan, is named after the ancient Quyue City. During the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty, the Han River changed its course, and its main flow merged into the Yangtze River north of Gui Mountain, leaving behind Moon Lake.

Moon Lake Park consists of five major landscapes around Moon Lake:

  • The north shore is the cultural and arts center area;
  • The south shore, adjacent to the ancient Guqin Terrace, is an open-air stage plaza that can accommodate 8,000-10,000 people;
  • The east side is the Little Moon Lake Peninsula;
  • The southwest side is close to Meizi Mountain.

The design theme of the Moon Lake landscape is to build a theme park that showcases the cultural and historical heritage of the Moon Lake area, integrates leisure and entertainment, and features charming natural scenery.

On the 11th, it was learned from the Moon Lake Scenic Area Management Office that in October, the Moon Lake Scenic Area will launch the landscape enhancement project, which is scheduled for completion in June next year.By then, an approximately 6.5-kilometer greenway will encircle Moon Lake, and 5 landscape nodes will provide resting spaces for citizens, completing the stunning transformation of Moon Lake, Wuhan's "most beautiful living room."

△ Greenway zoning

The construction project borders Qintai Concert Hall to the north, Qintai Avenue to the south, Qiaokou Road to the west, and Yingwu Avenue to the east. The project consists of two parts: the greenway and landscape nodes, with a total land area of 13,945.5 sq m, including a renovated greenway area of 7,393.1 sq m, a newly built greenway area of 5,564.3 sq m, and a newly built node paving area of 988.1 sq m.

△ Node layout plan

Pan Yichi, chief of the Infrastructure Section of the Moon Lake Scenic Area Management Office, introduced that the greenway has a total length of 6,514 m, and the design adopts methods such as renovation, new construction, and borrowing existing paths to createthe urban scenery section, the streetside strolling section, the park touring section, the lake and mountain resting section, and the waterfront countryside section, 5 distinctive sections in total, to highlight Moon Lake's landscape resource advantages:

  • Streetside strolling section

    Located south of Moon Lake, adjacent to the north side of Qintai Avenue, 1,642.9 m long and 4.5 m wide;
  • Waterfront countryside section

    Located on the north shore of Moon Lake, starting at the junction of Moon Lake Bridge and the north shore of Moon Lake, and ending at the parking lot west of Qintai Grand Theatre, 1,199.7 m long and 2.5 m wide;
  • Lake and mountain resting section

    Located on the south shore of Moon Lake, starting at the Sinopec gas station on Qintai Avenue and ending at the boardwalk west of Moon Lake Yingtai, 1,026 m long and 2.5 m wide;
  • The urban scenery section and the park touring section

    use borrowed routes and renovated existing roads in the scenic area.

At the same time, 5 landscape nodes have been set up, including a viewing platform, Pinghu Wenyin, Guanshan Terrace, Fangge Terrace, and a pier, providing citizens with spaces for rest and activities and creating a comfortable urban greenway landscape.

△ Pinghu Wenyin rendering

The reporter learned from the Wuhan Institute of Landscape Architecture Planning and Design, which is responsible for the project design, that the project aims to create a distinctive waterfront space of "ecology + culture," building a leisure path that winds through the mountainside, waterside, and forest, and a place for experiencing "finding a kindred spirit" and "hearing elegant music."

The greenway construction strives to meet ecological principles, selecting ecological permeable paving materials, and the route selection and renovation strive not to damage existing vegetation, choosing existing garden paths, linking multiple surrounding cultural points, and also adding waterfront greenways for close contact with the water.
