Who knows when it started, but growing vegetables on the balcony has become a popular trend. Probably because when you grow them yourself, you do not add pesticides or preservatives, so they are natural and pollution-free, or maybe because growing them yourself is just so much fun. Anyway, when spring and autumn come, everyone starts planting vegetables one after another.

Recently Huahua went with her mom to visit Sister Li next door, and she was deeply drawn in by her courtyard! Why? Not only does this sister grow vegetables, but you would never guess what container she uses. What is it? It is the oil drums we use at home for cooking!

That is right, nowadays even oil drums have found their purpose. They are no longer just ordinary oil drums, no longer worthless buckets thrown away once empty! And really, using them to grow vegetables works unusually well!

Huahua quickly asked Sister Li how exactly she made these oil drum planters. Sister Li told Huahua the method, and once Huahua understood it, she hurried to share it with everyone!

First, you have to wash the oil drum clean so the inside is no longer so oily. After washing and letting it dry, find a small pair of scissors. You can cut off one vertical side and lay it horizontally, or cut off the top and stand it upright. An oil drum laid horizontally can grow more vegetables, while an upright oil drum is better suited to crops with deeper roots. Everyone can choose according to their needs.

When mixing the soil, you can add some sandy soil like river sand to improve the soil's air permeability. Of course, you can also poke a few small holes in the bottom to increase the soil's drainage and air permeability, preventing waterlogging from affecting plant growth.

Then you can put in the vegetables or vegetable seeds you like to grow, and you are ready to plant! If you want to eat large-leaf vegetables, you can sow a little less seed. If you want to grow those tiny ones, like baby bok choy, you can sow a little more seed, so that one drum can grow more.

Winter is almost here, so we had better store some crops like potatoes. You can plant a few potatoes or sweet potatoes in deeper soil, dig them out when winter comes, and cook them straight in the pot. Their taste is beyond delicious!

Easy to wish for, but you have to do it well too. Growing vegetables is just like growing flowers: sunlight, water and fertilizer, not one can be missing. You also have to find a cool, ventilated place suitable for vegetables to grow. There is a lot to learn!

So everyone must not slack off. Otherwise, if the vegetables do not grow well later, they will not taste good to eat either. Do you all agree?

Actually, oil drums can grow not only vegetables but also plants and flowers! And not just oil drums at home, but also the drink bottles we use, and so on. As long as you want to use it to grow flowers, anything can grow them!
