Many friends often ask, now that it's autumn, they want to grow some vegetables themselves, what's good to plant, they're not very good at growing vegetables, is there anything especially easy to grow - so Xiaoya recommends garlic sprouts, chives, baby greens, lettuce and the like, because you can grow them well without any skill, and they grow especially vigorously. Garlic sprouts in particular - every household has them in the kitchen. This year's garlic is also very cheap, and sometimes it goes to waste when you can't finish it, so you might as well toss it into a flower pot. It's so easy to grow, and it comes up lush and green, as pleasing to the eye as a potted plant.

Plant a pot of garlic sprouts in autumn; they can grow a chi tall in ten days, you can harvest several cuttings, and you can even get garlic bulbs! The method for growing garlic sprouts is very simple - choose either of two methods, both are easy:

Methods and tips for hydroponic garlic

You only need to prepare some garlic that isn't damaged or moldy; you can harvest several cuttings from it, and it's relatively clean, simple and hygienic.

Whether or not the garlic bulbs have sprouted, they can be used for hydroponics; you just need to prepare a container for hydroponics. Put it in a brightly lit place, and top up the water when it runs out.

After harvesting one cutting, keep growing it hydroponically; you can also water it with some decomposed organic fertilizer solution, and give it plenty of sun so the leaves grow fast and well.

When harvesting the first time, don't cut too far down; it will keep growing leaves. If grown well hydroponically, you can get one or two cuttings from it.

Methods and tips for growing garlic in soil

This grows more robustly, with thicker stems and leaves, and if grown well, you may even harvest garlic scapes and garlic bulbs later.

Before sowing garlic, prepare fertile soil. It isn't picky about soil, but the richer the better. You can use leaf mold with some cinder or sand and garden soil, and you can also add some decomposed chicken manure, cow manure, farmyard manure, etc.

Prepare garlic that hasn't gone moldy. Break the bulb apart and plant the cloves one by one into the soil, about 2 cm deep, leaving just the tip sticking out. Water thoroughly, but don't let it turn to mud, then put it in a sunny, well-ventilated spot. Generally they sprout and emerge in a week.

After the seedlings have grown for a week and are fairly even, give them a little organic fertilizer solution. If you don't have a cleanliness hang-up, or can't find fertilizer, you can use a child's urine, let it ferment in a drink bottle for a while, then dilute it and water it in - not too much, otherwise it easily burns the roots.

Increase its nutrition, and after a dozen or so days it can grow to about a chi tall. At this point you can cut the garlic sprouts to eat - remember to use scissors to cut them, because if you give a little more fertilizer, they'll keep growing, and you can get one or two more cuttings. Add more fertilizer after two months. It will grow especially fast, the garlic sprouts getting taller and taller, and by then it can even bolt and produce scapes.

After it bolts, about twenty-some days later, you can pull it up roots and all from the pot soil and harvest the garlic bulbs. The garlic Xiaoya grew in flower pots, though not as big as that grown in open ground, still produced quite a lot. If grown on a terrace or in a rooftop flower bed, the garlic bulbs harvested are even more plentiful.
