Profile: Yu Tian, born in 1969 in Shengzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Senior arts and crafts artist, Shaoxing municipal arts and crafts master, inheritor of Shaoxing municipal intangible cultural heritage (Shengzhou root carving). A representative figure of contemporary bamboo root round carving with a distinctly individual style, he has opened a new realm in the field of bamboo carving art. In 2007, his bamboo root carving work "Jiangnan Sizhu" was included in a touring exhibition of Chinese treasures in Mexico and other countries (hosted by the State Council Information Office). From 2008 to 2011, his bamboo root carving works were shortlisted for four consecutive sessions of the China Guardian modern and contemporary carving art special auction, and sold at considerable prices. In 2010, he held a two-person bamboo carving art exhibition with Zhang Weizhong at the Shanghai Jiading Bamboo Carving Museum. In 2011, he was invited to exhibit at the Chang'an Tower of the Xi'an International Horticultural Exposition. In 2012, three pieces demonstrating the bamboo root round carving process were exhibited and collected at the Shanghai Museum. In 2014, the bamboo root carving "Goose Commander" won the special prize at the 4th China Zhejiang Arts and Crafts Fine Works Expo.
