Autumn is here! It's another flower-buying season, and Huahua wants to remind everyone not to bring just any flower home. Especially for flower lovers without a south-facing balcony, be sure to check which flowers suit which environment, otherwise the moment you buy the flower, a tragic ending is already sealed!

South-facing balcony: enjoy flowers and grow vegetables

Flower lovers with a south-facing balcony, you are the envy of everyone! Full-day sunlight, plenty of sunshine, especially suitable for growing sun-loving plants.

1. Jasmine

I wonder if you have ever heard the saying that jasmine cannot be killed by sun exposure, so jasmine loves basking in the sun, and only a south-facing balcony can meet its needs.

2. Bougainvillea

Flower lovers who adore growing bougainvillea have given it an affectionate nickname, "Little San." But did you know that Little San also needs long hours of light to grow and bloom normally?

3. Aglaia

Many flower lovers have told Huahua that their Aglaia bloomed but has no fragrance, and that is because there is not enough light. It also loves a sunny, well-lit environment.

There are also roses, geraniums, clematis and so on, all of which are very suitable for a south-facing balcony, and growing vegetables is also a good choice. Southeast- and southwest-facing balconies can also use this as a reference.

North-facing balcony: stick to foliage plants!

For a north-facing balcony, the sunlight conditions can be described as terribly poor, mainly indirect light, with only a tiny bit of light in summer, so try to choose shade-loving and shade-tolerant plants!

1. Pothos, spider plant

The most common potted plants in homes, their shade tolerance is second to none. The bright indirect light of a north-facing balcony is enough for their growth!

2. Monstera

One of the most popular foliage plants for homes, it likes indirect light, so it can also be grown on a north-facing balcony.

3. Boston fern

Actually, most potted ferns can be grown on a north-facing balcony. Boston fern, for example, likes bright indirect light; just give it a humid environment.

There are also caladium, inch plant, English ivy and so on, all of which are very suitable for a north-facing balcony. Northeast- and northwest-facing balconies can also use this as a reference.

East-facing balcony: second only to south-facing

An east-facing balcony is a partial-sun environment. The morning sun is quite good, and after noon there is no direct sunlight, making it more suitable for growing sun-loving and slightly shade-tolerant plants.

1. Kalanchoe

Grow a pot of kalanchoe: abundant blooms, a long flowering period, loves light yet is slightly shade-tolerant. The environment of an east-facing balcony is just right.

2. Plumbago

Lately, more and more flower lovers have been growing plumbago, and Huahua also really loves the color of its blooms!

3. Camellia

Camellia loves light but fears direct harsh sun. The warm, soft morning light of an east-facing balcony makes it an absolute match for camellia.

There are also azaleas, nasturtium, fuchsia and so on, all of which are very suitable for an east-facing balcony.

West-facing balcony: harsh and scorching

You need to be careful when growing flowers on a west-facing balcony. There is a term for it: western exposure. There is no sunlight in the morning, and in the afternoon there are 3 to 4 hours of intense sunlight, simply harsh and scorching, so you can grow sun-loving and drought-tolerant plants.

1. Cypress vine

Cypress vine likes a sunny, well-lit environment. Plant a pot on a west-facing balcony and let it climb upward; when its branches and leaves are full, it can also block the overly strong afternoon sunlight in summer.

2. Madagascar periwinkle

It likes moisture but is slightly drought-tolerant. Prune it diligently during care and keep it from growing taller, and a big flower ball will be just around the corner.

3. Morning glory

It likes a well-lit environment, and choosing a suitable variety is also a good option!

There are also pomegranate, honeysuckle, Chinese ixora and so on, all of which are very suitable for a west-facing balcony.
