The Money Tree is also known by the nickname "Dragon and Phoenix Tree" because its newly sprouted pinnate compound leaves almost always come in pairs of 2, one long and one short, one thick and one thin. It symbolizes: bringing in wealth and treasure, glory and prosperity. The Money Tree is not only easy to keep alive but also has very high ornamental value. Seen from a distance, the Money Tree always gives people a feeling of lush green dripping with vitality and vigorous upward growth, and placed indoors it can also absorb harmful gases such as formaldehyde and benzene and kill bacteria in the air. So many people keep a Money Tree at home. In fact, propagating the Money Tree is also very simple, and you can easily propagate it yourself at home. You only need one branch or one leaf to successfully propagate a new Money Tree. Let's take a look together!

Suitable cutting methods for the Money Tree

Stem cuttings, leaf cuttings

Time and temperature for Money Tree cuttings

The best time to take Money Tree cuttings is between April and May or between September and October. In terms of temperature, take cuttings when the air temperature is above 20°C. Under these conditions, roots will form in about 15-20 days!

Preparation of cutting tools

Small flowerpot, loose and breathable soil, watering can, spray bottle, scissors or blade, rooting powder,Carbendazim (absolutely essential)

Steps for taking Money Tree cuttings:

Day one

Step one: The day before taking cuttings, water the soil for the cuttings thoroughly and set it aside, just make sure the soil used for cuttings the next day is moist; select a healthy Money Tree branch and cut it off for later use. Older branches can be chosen, and any length is fine;

Cut the branch

Step two: Divide the branch into several small sections with two leaves per section, then remove each section with its leaf stalk, keeping only one leaf per small section. Do not throw away the other leaf; keep it for later use;

Sectioning

Step three: Disinfect the cut wounds on each small section and on the leaf stalk of the other leaf. Soak the cut wounds in a carbendazim solution for half an hour to one hour (if you have not prepared it, you can also skip this step and just let them dry), then place them in a cool place to dry off the moisture for later use;

Leaves

Day two

Step four: Dip the Money Tree sections with small branch segments in rooting powder and insert them neatly in the middle position of the pot soil. In the remaining gaps around them, also dip the leaf stalk of the other leaf in rooting powder and insert it into the soil in the middle position around the branches. The insertion depth should be 1/2 or 1/3;

Cutting layout

Step five: Place the pot with the cuttings in a shaded and ventilated place, then spray water on the leaf surfaces and the pot soil. After that, spray water according to how dry or wet the pot soil is, just keep the pot soil moist.

  • Precautions

  • The test standard for the soil used for cuttings is that it feels moist when squeezed in the hand and falls apart when you open your hand;

  • The cut branch will not branch again from the cut position to grow new branches;

  • Thinner branch sections are easier to root; if you do not want to throw away finger-thick ones, you can also bury them 1/2 deep in the soil and care for them the same way, only the rooting process will be slower;

  • Just keep the inside of the pot moist, and never water heavily, to avoid rotting the cuttings and causing propagation failure

  • Successful cuttings will have young shoots growing directly out of the soil, not new leaves growing from the inserted branch, so if the leaves on the inserted branch fall off but are not rotting, you can rest assured and continue caring for them;

  • After cutting, the Money Tree grows roots first and then sprouts, so rooting powder is still necessary, otherwise it may be one or two months or even longer before young shoots grow;
