It felt like just a couple of days ago we were sweating from the heat, and suddenly it turned cool and autumn arrived. The weather changes so fast. So what flowers are suitable to grow in this weather now? In autumn, just grow this one type of flowering plant: the blooms are beautiful, it is easy to keep alive, and the flowering period is long, lasting over 200 days.

This flower is called the dahlia. Its flowers are extremely vivid in color, and it comes in so many color varieties that you can grow whichever color you like. A well-grown dahlia can produce blooms bigger than an adult's fist when open, which is quite remarkable.

The dahlia flowers from May to January of the following year, with a flowering period of more than half a year. It is a perennial herb with large club-shaped tuberous roots. Planting some dahlia tubers in pots in autumn is very suitable.

When growing dahlias in pots, they are best planted in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam soil and kept in a cool, moist environment. When the air is dry, you can spray some clean water around the plant to increase air humidity.

Dahlias are relatively shade-tolerant. They do not like direct strong light and are best kept in a semi-shaded environment. Too strong sunlight is not good for flowering.

The dahlia's flowering period is very long, and September to October is when its blooms are largest, most vivid and most abundant. This is the most beautiful time to view the flowers. During its growing period it is not strict about temperature and can grow at 8-35°C.

But one thing to note: dahlias are neither drought-tolerant nor waterlogging-tolerant, so do not water too frequently. Generally, when the top of the potting soil looks slightly dry, water thoroughly, following the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, and never let water accumulate.

Caring for dahlias is still quite simple. The main reasons are its long flowering period and large blooms, so with one in a pot at home you never have to worry about having no flowers to look at.
