Taichung Wufeng friendly urban and rural environment, Beifeng Park greening and beautification

The Taichung City Government is building a friendly urban and rural environment in Wufeng, carrying out improvements to 6 old public restrooms, including those at Beifeng Park, Wufeng Market and Guangfu Market, and greening and beautifying 8 vacant lots. Among them, Beifeng Park, which had been abandoned for more than 10 years, was unveiled and opened, with a greening area of about 1.3 hectares, estimated to reduce carbon by 30 metric tons per year; a nearby park was also tidied up and added with landscaping such as owls and a church, becoming a popular spot for wedding photos.

The Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau, Economic Development Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau and Wufeng District Office and other city government teams worked together. Last year, under the theme "A city of culture and history, A-Ta-Wu, happy and sustainable living in Wufeng," they sought funding from the Executive Yuan Environmental Protection Administration's top-tier program for creating a friendly urban and rural environment, promoting improvements to old public restrooms at Beifeng Park, Wufeng Market and Guangfu Market and the greening and beautification of vacant lots.

Among them, Beifeng Park, located in a remote area, has an overall greening area of about 1.3 hectares, estimated to reduce carbon by about 30 metric tons per year, while also giving residents space for walking and resting, and making the scenery along the bicycle path more beautiful. The greening and beautification project was completed recently, and an unveiling ceremony and results observation were held on the 12th, with Environmental Protection Bureau Deputy Director-General Wu Tung-yao, Environmental Protection Administration Environmental Sanitation and Toxic Substances Management Division Director Yuan Shao-ying, Wufeng District Chief Li Hung-yu and local residents all present to join the occasion.

The Environmental Protection Bureau pointed out that since promoting the greening and beautification of vacant lots, the Wufeng District Office has actively cooperated with the environmental transformation, and as of now 9 locations have been completed, creating recreational space for residents; some places, because of the addition of cute owl-shaped trash cans and the church's decorative arch, have become popular spots for wedding photos and check-ins.
