We have all probably heard of saffron. It is a plant with medicinal value and can help promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, calm the mind and soothe the nerves. Saffron flowers come in several colors, and the floral scent is very distinctive and highly appealing. Besides its extremely high medicinal value, saffron also has a certain ornamental value. Today we will learn about this plant, saffron.

Saffron can also be grown as a "potted plant"! Understand these 4 points and you can easily grow saffron well!

1. Choosing potting soil

For saffron, it prefers loose, breathable, well-drained fertile soil, so we should prepare leaf mold with suitable fertility for it. Also, before planting, the potting soil should be disinfected first, because saffron has very poor resistance when it has just sprouted and is more prone to pests and diseases. The potting soil should also be replaced about once a year, which is more conducive to promoting the growth of saffron.

2. Planting saffron

For saffron, you first need to choose a suitable flower pot; small to medium-sized deep flower pots are more suitable for its growth. Soak the prepared saffron seeds in warm water for about two days, then bury them in the prepared potting soil. Be careful not to bury them too densely, so as not to affect later growth. After burying them, place them in a cool, ventilated place. After about ten days, saffron begins to take root and sprout. After it sprouts, let it receive proper sunlight, then gradually switch to normal care.

3. Watering

Because saffron mostly needs to be planted in autumn, its peak growing season is in spring. Saffron does not need much water. We only need to water it thoroughly right after sowing, and then water it once more before winter arrives. When watering in winter, be careful that the difference between the water temperature and the soil is not too great, and it must be watered thoroughly. Once spring arrives, we can return to normal care and resume a normal watering frequency.

4. Fertilizing

We should choose a suitable base fertilizer before sowing, as this is more conducive to the growth of saffron. In winter, there is no need to fertilize too much, because its growth rate is very slow in this season and the saffron seedlings are very fragile. When spring comes the next year, saffron enters its peak growing season, and the amount of fertilizer should be increased. Fertilizer should be applied about every ten days or so. Only in this way can saffron be ensured to grow quickly, which helps promote and increase the number of flowers.

This is the normal care process for a pot of saffron. In ordinary times, we can place it in a spot with diffused light. Because there are many varieties of saffron, their flowering periods are all different. So when choosing, we should pay attention and it is best to choose varieties that bloom in spring, as this is good for storing the flowers and these saffron varieties also have a longer flowering period.
