When many novice flower lovers choose flower plant varieties to care for, the first thing they consider is definitely plants that bloom beautifully. Indeed, who doesn't like things with high "looks"? But many times, "beauties" also come with thorns, and they look good but are very hard to keep alive. Speaking of this, Huahua thinks of the azalea. It really can be called the "proud and fussy" master of the flower world!

Some azaleas also bloom in winter, so many flower lovers choose to keep a few pots during the Chinese New Year to add some color. The azaleas just brought back from the flower market have emerald green leaves and full blooms, and they are truly very pleasing to look at. But sometimes, before the Chinese New Year is even over at home, leaf drop and flower drop begin to happen. What exactly is going on here?

First, we need to understand the root problem of azaleas before we can solve the difficulty. The azaleas we buy from the flower market are generally grown in greenhouses, but the winter temperature in our homes generally cannot reach the same level as in a greenhouse. So at this time the azalea's roots will feel uncomfortable, just like what we usually call a rejection reaction. Therefore, things like flower drop and leaf drop are also understandable.

For the azaleas we bring home from the flower market, besides ensuring their growing temperature, we also need to put effort into their daily care. After all, with a plant as "proud and fussy" as the azalea, once something goes wrong in any aspect, it really is hard to turn things around. Huahua will now tell everyone about the daily care issues for azaleas.

1. Light intensity

In spring, azaleas can be moved outdoors for care. At this time the sunlight is relatively soft, and apart from needing a little shade around noon, normal light at other times is fine. In summer, because the temperature is high and the light is strong, we need to place it in a ventilated environment, and it only needs a little sunlight in the early morning and evening. In autumn and winter, when the temperature is low, while putting it indoors for care, pay attention to letting the azalea absorb a little scattered light every day.

2. Watering frequency

For azaleas, try to keep watering at a moderate amount. Because an environment that is too dry or too wet will both make azaleas grow less vigorously. Generally, we try to make sure azaleas are watered once a day in summer. When winter comes and the temperature is too low, evaporation is also slow, so at that time watering once every 5 days on average is enough.

3. How much fertilizer to apply

Azalea roots are relatively thin and soft, which means they are rather fragile, so when fertilizing, try to apply thin fertilizer frequently. This can both ensure the nutrients azaleas need during their growth period and avoid damaging the azalea roots. Before azaleas bloom, it is best to choose thin fertilizer water containing phosphorus. After the flowers fade, give them thin fertilizer water containing nitrogen. If you keep this up, making azaleas grow vigorously will not be a problem at all.

It really does take some effort to grow azaleas well. If you have any better little methods for azalea care, tell Huahua in the comments section!
