The peony has the beauty of a national treasure, yet it simply refuses to bloom - the problem may be with watering

Keeping a few flowering plants at home means that when the blooming season arrives, you can enjoy the fragrance filling the room and the riot of colors - this should be a truly delightful thing. But with so many flowering plants on the market these days, which one would look better? Huahua thought the same way before, and then picked up a pot of peony, fantasizing every day about the scene when it would bloom.
We all know that Chinese literati have had a special affection for peonies since ancient times, and the appearance of a peony in bloom is truly stunning. However, getting a peony to bloom is really not an easy task. Below, Huahua will introduce the everyday care methods for peonies, hoping your peony will bloom early too!
1. Soil selection
Although peonies look rather noble, their soil requirements are actually not high. Generally, sandy soil with good aeration and drainage will do. If it is inconvenient to find, you can also make it yourself - mixing leaf mold with a bit of river sand is also a good choice. If you want to grow a potted peony yourself, remember it is best to disinfect the roots before planting, to avoid later problems.
2. Light intensity
The more abundant the light, the better the peony will grow. Under normal circumstances, we can place the peony on a balcony with relatively abundant sunlight for care. However, when the sunlight becomes stronger in summer, pay attention to providing shade, so that nutrients are not lost too quickly and the peony's growth cannot be guaranteed. The peony requires a relatively warm growing environment, so remember to move it back indoors for care in winter.
3. Water requirements
Peonies have different watering needs in different seasons. In spring, because it has just endured the winter, when moving the peony outdoors you need to water it thoroughly in one go, which is better for the peony's subsequent growth and sprouting. In summer, the best time to water is in the early morning or in the evening when the weather is relatively cool; only then will the water not evaporate too quickly after watering, ensuring the moisture the peony needs for later growth. In winter, the weather is cold, so the amount of watering should be appropriately reduced.
4. Fertilizer requirements
For a newly planted peony, by no means should you add fertilizer first like you would with other flowers. It is best not to fertilize a new peony plant for the first half year, and only start normal fertilization after half a year has passed. Generally, a peony is fertilized 3 times a year: the first time is during the spring growing period, the second time is within one week after the flowers fade, and the last time is before the onset of winter. Fertilizing in this way will make the peony grow more vigorously.
The peony is a plant that is very pleasing to look at, and with good care, its buds really are large and beautiful. Huahua is now constantly waiting for the potted peony at home to bloom. If you have even better care methods, you are also welcome to leave a message and tell Huahua!
