Autumn pruning tips for roses: what you need to know if you have roses at home

If you have roses at home, you should prune them now. If you don't know how to prune, then you should read the following knowledge carefully.
Pruning roses in autumn is different from pruning in winter. At this time, you should prune them lightly, that is, do not prune too heavily.
Normal branches
For normally growing branches, that is, those with leaves on their lower parts, when pruning, do not prune any of the main branches. When pruning side branches, leave three buds on the secondary branches and two buds on the other branches, and prune off all the rest.
Leggy branches
For leggy branches, start pruning from the middle part, leave five complete leaves on the lower part, leave three complete leaves on leggy side branches, and prune off all the other parts.
Climbing roses
For pruning climbing roses (large climbing shrubs are the same), if it is a plant more than one year old, then when pruning, cut the side branches that have already bloomed to about half their length, and for the longer branches at the top that have already bloomed, train and secure them.
If it is a plant of the current year, just trim it slightly; simply cut two to five leaves off its side branches, and if there are long branches at the top, also train and secure them.
Miniature roses
For pruning miniature roses, if it is a one-year-old plant, when pruning, cut all branches from the middle part. If it is a rose of the current year, just cut off one third of the length of the branches.
If you want your roses to produce beautiful autumn blooms, after pruning, pay attention to strengthening fertilizer and water management, and at the same time avoid the potting soil becoming compacted.
