After a long summer, the crisp, clear days of autumn arrive, and autumn is a wonderful time for succulents. Most succulents grow in spring and autumn, and as the temperature difference changes, many of them enter the most beautiful season of the year, showing their most brilliant colors.

But that does not mean that once autumn arrives you can recklessly give them full sun, heavy watering, and heavy fertilizing. I want to advise everyone to be careful, and not assume that once your succulents have made it through summer, everything will be fine. In this "eventful autumn," you must know these things about caring for succulents:

1. How can you make succulents color up

Now is the growing season for succulents, so they can be grown fully outdoors. Plenty of light is an important part of getting succulents to color up; next is the day-night temperature difference. The greater the temperature difference, the faster the succulents color up and the more brilliant the color. Finally, there is water control. Even in the growing season, you must not water too frequently. The purpose of water control is to keep the succulent from staying plump all the time, which helps reduce its own coloration.

2. Do they need repotting

Repotting is mainly for succulents that have been growing for more than 1 year, as well as those that have been planted for half a year and are in poor, half-dead condition. As long as the temperature has dropped, you can safely and boldly inspect every pot of succulents. Of course, those growing very vigorously do not need to be disturbed. Before repotting, you need to prepare enough soil in advance. If you find insects in the soil, you need to change the soil promptly.

In addition, there is one more thing to note: autumn is a vigorous growing season for succulents, so pay attention to replenishing nutrients in time. When replenishing, it is recommended to use liquid fertilizer, as it is absorbed better and also faster. Dilute 500 times, once a week, and just water the roots.

3. Do the roots need to be cleaned up

As for cleaning up the roots of succulents, it is not mandatory, but it is best to trim the root system, because after a long period of accumulation, the fine capillary roots that succulents use to absorb water will dry up and die, hindering the growth of new roots. The damage caused by root trimming will also stimulate the growth of succulents and speed up rooting.

So carefully observe the condition of the succulent's root system before you start cutting. When trimming roots, remove the dried leaves as well, to avoid insect eggs hiding among them. More meticulous succulent growers can use scissors to trim away the dead roots and rotten roots bit by bit, while those who are less patient can use scissors to cut straight through the upper-middle part of the roots in one go.

4. Can succulents be taken outside to bask in the sun

The sun has many benefits for succulents, so what happens without enough light? If your succulent does not get enough light, first of all its overall shape will be uneven and it will gradually grow deformed! The stem will no longer be upright but very soft and drooping, and the color of the leaves will look very dull.

It will also affect flower buds and flowering, and in the end may even cause buds and flowers to drop! It is now clearly autumn, but when the midday temperature is high and the succulent has just been repotted not long ago, you should also pay attention to shading, which is beneficial for the succulent's growth and recovery.

Finally, I hope everyone can be patient and confident, and help your succulents get through autumn and become plump and chubby.
