When buying flowers, you must avoid these pitfalls, or they will wither and die as soon as you get them home
If the leaves are glossy, beware of the seller's trap
I have noticed that the flowers at home are never as fresh and lively as those in the flower market. The leaves look as if they are really oozing oil. Later, a friend who sells flowers told me that they spray "brightening agent" every day!
Flowers sprayed with brightening agent look as if they have been oiled, making people like them at first glance. You must resist. This kind of brightening agent is oil-based and will affect the leaves' respiration. After you buy them and take them home, they will lose their shine within 2 days and are very likely to die!
Do not buy ones with pests or disease, or they will infect a whole bunch at home
Summer and autumn are also periods of high incidence of pests and disease. When you buy flowers, you must look carefully. If any leaf has insect holes, webbing or rust spots, do not buy it! After you take it home, not only will it not be cured, it can also infect your other flowers at home~
If it is hard for you to identify pests and disease, you can focus on the front and back of the leaves of Chinese rose, succulents, money tree, clematis, chrysanthemum, Peperomia tetraphylla, ZZ plant... If you find aphids, red spiders or scale insects, put it down at once and do not buy it!
Do not be curious about colorful ones; ten to one they will not survive
In the flower market, not only is leaf brightening agent commonly used, but "color-changing agent" is used too, especially on succulents. If you see colorful succulents or jade plants, 90% have been treated with chemicals. After you buy them and take them home, they will fade, and the survival rate is very low.
Besides succulents, there are also some colorful flower varieties. Whenever multicolored flower seeds or roots are sold, claiming that one plant can bloom in several colors, it is almost always a big scam. 2 yuan is still money, so do not be fooled!
Do not buy crooked ones; you are paying for trouble
There are many pots of the same kind of flower in the flower market. When choosing among them, do not take the "crooked-neck" flowers. These are generally in poor growing condition. Not only do they look bad, but after you take them home they are also prone to poor development.
For ones like orchids and clivia, choose those with relatively symmetrical leaves; for succulents, choose short, plump and round ones; for Chinese rose, bougainvillea and so on, choose ones with sturdy branches and stems.
Few flower buds means not worth the money
Autumn is also the time to buy small herbaceous flowers like daisies and kalanchoe... When choosing, first look at whether the flower color is deep. Deep color means the nutrition is relatively sufficient, and after you take them home they can also keep blooming.
Besides color, choose ones with many flower buds. If the temperature is suitable, they will adapt after being repotted more easily. As long as you do not water too much, the flower buds can open normally. At the same price, buying a pot with many flower buds is definitely worth it!
Loose potting soil and light weight mean there is something fishy about this flower
Newly bought flowers have a hard time adapting, so choosing flowers is very important. If the potting soil looks very loose, like newly added soil, this kind has generally just been transplanted from the greenhouse and has not yet adapted after repotting, so it will be even harder to care for after you take it home.
When choosing flowers, weigh them a few more times. If the whole thing is very light, it means the soil probably has little nutrition and poor root stability, or else the lower layer of the flowerpot has been padded with plastic or paper balls. It is all the seller's "tricks," so do not be fooled.
