Artificial topping is very simple: keep the whole plant at a certain height, then cut off the top of the branch. After cutting, it will naturally grow new shoots from between the leaves and the stem. If we give it sufficient fertilizer, water and light, it will grow many side shoots, which achieves the multi-head effect. This is also the most commonly used method. But after topping, the top of its stem will have a flat cut surface.

The other way is to let it branch into side shoots on its own. With a rubber plant, if water is sufficient, it is very hard for it to branch into side shoots. If we want it to grow side shoots quickly, the fertilizer must be sufficient. On the premise of sufficient fertilizer, we put it in the spot with the most sufficient light, and then do not water too hastily. When its leaves droop and go soft, water it again. Keep controlling the watering this way, that is, water only when the leaves go soft, and continue for about one month. The light must be good. After one month, resume normal watering, and just water it thoroughly in time when the potting soil dries out. Within half a month at most, side shoots will naturally emerge from the leaf buds at the top. If you do not believe it, you can try it. This method works because it has enough nutrients, but water is lacking and not given in time. Just when it is about to grow taller, it lacks water. So it does not grow. Gradually, as this continues, it feels it cannot grow taller anymore, and once watering is kept up later, new side shoots will grow from between the leaf axils. This is also a method of artificial manipulation. The two straight-stemmed rubber plants that Xiao Qi propagated from cuttings were treated with this method, and then many side shoots came out.
