As the weather gradually turns cold, the flower market is booming right now, and everyone is preparing New Year flowers. The flower introduced today is called "Qianlixiang" (Thousand-Mile Fragrance), a type of camellia, cultivated by foreign horticulturists. Also known as Xiangfei Camellia, Liexiang, etc., it is the most fragrant variety among camellias, with a rich aroma, and is deeply loved by flower enthusiasts.
Qianlixiang flower
Liexiang, also known as fragrant tea and Qianlixiang camellia, etc., is almost the most fragrant variety among all fragrant camellias, with sasanqua genes. Its flower type is multi-petaled, irregular, pink, peony-shaped. The flowering period is from October of the lunar calendar to March-April of the following year, lasting as long as half a year. The peak flowering period is from January to March, coinciding with the Spring Festival, so it can be used as a potted New Year flower.
Potted Liexiang
Not only are the flowers beautiful, but Liexiang can also be said to be the easiest camellia to grow. After all, it is a hybrid variety with stronger adaptability, cold resistance, and drought tolerance. As is well known, camellias are difficult to grow in northern China, but Liexiang does not have this problem. Many northern flower enthusiasts who like camellias ultimately choose Liexiang because it is easy to grow.
Flowers blooming all over the branches
Liexiang is a new variety cultivated abroad. When it was first introduced to China, it was quite expensive and was once enthusiastically sought after. With market popularization, the price is now very affordable, similar to ordinary green plants and flowers, yet its ornamental value is in no way inferior. Personally, I think this flower is no less beautiful than peonies and roses, and it can also be grown indoors.
Plant one at home, and fragrance fills the whole house
Liexiang is easy to cultivate, grows fast, and is a woody plant. It can also be pruned and shaped into a bonsai tree, displayed on indoor balconies, windowsills, living rooms, etc., looking even more elegant. Its leaves remain evergreen all year round, and the flowering period lasts half a year, offering both flowers and foliage to enjoy. The pruned branches can also continue to be propagated by cuttings, making it a rare excellent potted plant and fine bonsai material.
The Qianlixiang flower has a diameter of 9-10 cm and a strong fragrance, similar to a mixed scent of strong jasmine and rose. It is currently the most strongly scented camellia in the world, refreshing the heart and mind when smelled. The leaves are light green and evergreen all year round, making it a camellia variety with both beautiful flowers and foliage.
Potted Qianlixiang
Qianlixiang is a horticultural variety bred from the camellia variety "Mrs. D. W. Davis" x ("Salab" x hybrid "Sweet Perfume"). It has strong adaptability, inherits the excellent genes of the woody father parent, is easy to cultivate, and is a camellia very suitable for indoor potted ornamental use. Many camellias are difficult to grow in the north, but Qianlixiang is very easy to grow.
Qianlixiang bonsai
For potted Qianlixiang, it is advisable to use slightly acidic mountain red (yellow) soil with high humus content that is loose and well-aerated. This kind of soil is not only loose and well-aerated but also retains fertilizer and water, suitable for the growth and development of camellias. For home potting, it should be placed in balconies, windowsills, and other places with scattered light. Watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and not watering when not dry.
One plant can perfume a whole room
Qianlixiang camellia is a woody plant that grows fast. When potted, branches should be pruned in time to avoid wasting nutrients and affecting the flowering period. It can also be shaped into a bonsai tree according to preference. The pruned branches can also be propagated by cuttings. The flowering period is from December to May of the following year. Grow one at home, and one plant can perfume a whole room, saving even the need for air freshener.
