Asparagus fern is a common household flower. Many friends like to keep asparagus fern at home. Whether it is placed in the living room or the study, it gives people a rich scholarly atmosphere. Asparagus fern is also called the elegant bamboo, and is a representative flower of scholars and literati.

Although asparagus fern is good, every flower lover hopes to have a robust, emerald-green and dense asparagus fern potted plant at home. But in daily flower growing, many flower lovers encounter yellow leaves and root rot with asparagus fern, and even conclude that asparagus fern is not easy to grow.

In fact, growing asparagus fern also requires many small tips and bits of knowledge. Today I will share with you that Uncle Zhang has grown asparagus fern for ten years. In the process, he really does have some tips. For example, he changes the soil and repots his asparagus fern every year, puts base fertilizer at the bottom of the flowerpot every year, and fertilizes the asparagus fern every summer. So the asparagus fern grown by Uncle Zhang is not only emerald green and dense, but also blooms small white flowers every autumn, very beautiful and spectacular. So the theme I will share with you today is:

Uncle Zhang has grown asparagus fern for 10 years; in January he adds a little "it", and it blooms every year and becomes an "emerald ball"

Repot and add base fertilizer in spring

When Uncle Zhang grows asparagus fern, he repots and changes the soil for his asparagus fern every spring, because asparagus fern likes to grow in fertile soil, and the fleshy root system of asparagus fern absorbs nutrients very quickly. Basically, in one year it can absorb all the nutrients in the soil, so Uncle Zhang changes the soil for the asparagus fern every spring.

After lifting the plant out of the pot, loosen the root system, remove all the old soil, then prune the old roots and rotten roots. Soak the pruned asparagus fern roots in a 0.2% potassium permanganate aqueous solution for ten minutes to sterilize and disinfect, then put them in a cool place to dry. Then prepare a mixed soil: choose leaf mold, garden soil and sand and mix and stir them thoroughly in a 2:1:1 ratio. Choose a suitable flowerpot, put 2 cm of leaf mold at the bottom of the pot, then add rabbit manure as base fertilizer for later plant growth, and then plant the asparagus fern into the pot.

Rabbit manure is chosen as the base fertilizer because asparagus fern needs a large amount of nitrogen fertilizer during growth. So putting rabbit manure at the bottom of the flowerpot, as the rabbit manure ferments, continuously provides nutrients to the plant, making the asparagus fern grow emerald green and dense.

Spray foliar fertilizer in summer

When the growing environment for asparagus fern is suitable and its growth state is healthy, it can bloom white flowers every summer or autumn. Uncle Zhang sprays a 0.2% monopotassium phosphate aqueous solution on the leaves of the asparagus fern every summer. After absorbing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, it can not only promote leaf growth, but also promote flower bud development, so small white flowers bloom in autumn.

Every year, follow this method: repot and change the soil for the asparagus fern in spring; then spray monopotassium phosphate aqueous solution on the asparagus fern every summer. This can make it grow emerald green and healthy, and it can also bloom.

A little trick to avoid yellow leaves on asparagus fern

Generally, grow asparagus fern in a well-ventilated environment, water thoroughly each time, and do not let water accumulate in the pot. Place the asparagus fern on a balcony or windowsill in a spot with scattered light, avoid direct sun exposure, but do not keep the asparagus fern in long-term shade with poor lighting. After yellow leaves appear on the asparagus fern, prune them in time, then find the cause and treat it accordingly.
