I often get messages from gardening friends asking why the jasmine that others grow can bloom many times a year, while their own jasmine blooms only once a year, and even then with very few flowers?

Actually, this question has been asked by more than one gardening friend, and I tell everyone that in this kind of situation, you must have forgotten to prune it!

If you want the jasmine we grow to bloom more, pruning is a very important step. After each bloom fades, if we do not prune it, then even if we give it more fertilizer, it definitely will not bloom much!

How do you prune jasmine? This is actually very simple!

One,After each bloom fades, we should promptly cut off the spent flowers together with the second pair of leaves below the flower receptacle. This first avoids the spent flowers consuming too many nutrients, and second lets it sprout side buds faster!

Many gardening friends cannot bear to cut off the spent flowers, and each time they just let them wither naturally. This habit is very bad, because once the flowers have finished blooming, keeping them does not look good and they also consume nutrients!

Two,Many gardening friends who grow jasmine have never really done much major pruning, so the branches grow long or short, looking messy and disorderly, and very unattractive! So let us take advantage of this crisp autumn season and quickly give it a hard pruning!

Cut off all the overly thin, overly weak, and overly dense branches, and also shorten some overly long branches, so that it sends all its nutrients to differentiating side buds and growing flower buds!

A few days ago I posted a video for everyone about pruning flowers. In the video I explained that for flowers like jasmine, which grow many leaves on a single branch, you do not need to worry about pruning badly. It simply cannot be pruned badly; the harder you prune, the more it will bloom next time!
