This potted plant is called the mountain tortoise potted plant, and it is a very popular potted plant right now. When some flower lovers hear "mountain tortoise," they think it is an animal, but it actually is not. The mountain tortoise mentioned here refers to a type of tuberous-root plant, and it is also a Chinese medicine.

The mountain tortoise, also known as Di Bu Rong, belongs to the Menispermaceae family and the Stephania genus. In the Yunnan region, it is a famous traditional Chinese herbal medicine with many varieties. It often grows on rocky mountains, has well-developed tuberous roots that usually float exposed above the ground, and several types can be used medicinally.

Some places say this plant, the mountain tortoise, has the effect of gathering and attracting wealth, so a pot of it is often planted at the entrance of some shops. It not only carries the meaning of attracting and gathering wealth, but it also grows fast, and its green, round, lovely leaves keep climbing upward along the vines onto the wall, making the whole thing very beautiful.

The mountain tortoise has a very well-developed root system, so when potting it, it is better to use a deeper flower pot. For the potting soil, you can choose a relatively loose and breathable soil. If you use garden soil, you can add some peat to it and apply enough base fertilizer.

Spring, summer and autumn of each year are the growing seasons for the mountain tortoise. At this time, it needs more watering, but generally water when the soil is dry and let it dry out between waterings. As a tuberous-root plant, it cannot tolerate waterlogging. After winter begins, it has already entered dormancy, and the vines and leaves will also wither, so watering can be stopped in winter to keep the soil dry. Wait until March of the next year to start watering again, and by then it will sprout roots and grow buds again.

The mountain tortoise has a very strong climbing ability. It is said to be comparable to loofah. You can set up a trellis for it and let it climb to the height you want, or you can skip the trellis and directly grow it as a hanging plant. Give it more sunlight, and when it hangs down, it is comparable to pothos.

We can place the mountain tortoise potted plant in the living room, bedroom, courtyard balcony, or even use it to decorate a wall. You can let it grow however you want, with any shape you like. Its green foliage is both eye-catching and easy to grow.
