The Great Demon King
This tank of the Demon King was designed and built on behalf of a fishkeeping friend from Xinjiang, with the original intention of imitating the shallow-water environment of a vast sandy area and focusing on creating depth of field! The tank dimensions are 1900*900*700, with a bottom filter, and a super bottom filter at that. The tank occupies one third of the study's area, and since the room also has other furniture, construction and building at the time was rather cramped.
The specific hardscape design was meant to maximize the sense of space. For the stone material, an imitation of a pebble-like effect was chosen. After consulting a lot of reference material, stones on the bottom scoured by water flow basically have no sharp edges. In addition, to create depth of field, no stone wall effect was made at the back. Instead, light blue adhesive film combined with backlighting was used to create the effect of a boundless underwater expanse.
But in the end, because the backlight was positioned too low, the effect was less than satisfactory, though the overall result was still pretty good. The fish kept are Lake Tanganyika blue dolphins (Cyprichromis). Taking into account the blue dolphins' habit of piling sand pits when breeding, the hardscape was deliberately split into two, leaving suitable sandy areas at both ends, preparing for two pairs of blue dolphin broodstock to come into season at the same time without interfering with each other!
