Tomato blotchy ripening affects the quality and yield of tomatoes, but many farmer friends are not quite clear on how to prevent it and how to grow tomatoes. Blotchy ripening is generally caused by insufficient water and nutrients, unreasonable temperature, light and humidity; red and yellow patches appear on the fruit, or brown or green stripes appear, and the inside of the fruit differs from that of a normal fruit, so the correct methods of control and prevention must be mastered to avoid blotchy tomatoes.

How to prevent tomato blotchy ripening

1. Fertilization must be reasonable

Tomato blotchy ripening may be caused by excessive vegetative growth, which leads to an increase in chlorophyll in the tomato and inhibits the formation of lycopene, after which large numbers of yellow patches appear and "blotchy ripening" forms.

When boron and potassium are deficient and nutrient transport is poor, the tomato turns brown due to lack of nutrients, so base fertilizer must be applied and reasonably combined with various trace elements; this can strengthen the plant's photosynthesis, and only then will the tomato grow healthily.

2. Maintain a suitable temperature

The temperature on the surface of the tomato fruit should not exceed 32 degrees, because this is unfavorable to the synthesis of lycopene in the fruit and will leave residual green or brown on the skin. When the temperature is below 8 degrees, lycopene will be destroyed, and this destruction cannot be reversed, ultimately leading to tomato "blotchy ripening", so a temperature of around 25-30 degrees must be maintained, the nighttime temperature can be kept at around 13-17 degrees, and water must be regulated well; then the tomato will grow well.

3. Keep water and light sufficient

Water and light affect the transpiration of tomatoes, so sufficient light must be maintained; be careful not to let direct sunlight hit them, and do not let the soil become too dry, as the nutrient supply to the tomato roots will then be insufficient. So maintain diffused light and moisture, pay attention to nourishing the roots, and only then will the tomato fruit grow well.

When farmer friends encounter blotchy ripening in their usual tomato growing, they should pay attention to analyzing the cause, seeing whether it is caused by lack of fertilizer, by lack of trace elements, or by low temperature, and they need to adopt the corresponding method to avoid it, paying attention to watering and fertilizing and keeping the temperature suitable, so that tomatoes do not develop blotchy ripening.
