Teacher Xiaoye teaches you all kinds of flower-growing knowledge!

Many flower lovers enjoy growing spider plants and clivias, and feel that having just one or two pots at home is too few, so they keep buying more. In fact, after growing for two or three years, these plants grow small shoots, and all of them can be propagated by division, so you can harvest several pots of the flowers you love. Today Teacher Xiaoye will tell you the little tricks of propagation by division, so let's learn together!

Clivia

After a clivia has been grown for 2-3 years, you will find many small shoots emerging from the soil beside the mother plant in the pot. When these small shoots grow leaves 5-10 cm long, they can be propagated by division!

Steps:

1. After your clivia sprouts new shoots, wait until the leaves grow to 5-10 cm before removing the clivia from its pot. It is best not to water it for a week before removing it from the pot, as this helps speed up the process!

2. When removing it from the pot, turn the pot upside down, hold the clivia's root crown with one hand, and slowly tap the pot with the other hand, so the clivia comes out quickly. After removing it, just clean the soil off the roots.

3. After cleaning, to prevent the clivia's roots from being infected by bacteria, you can soak the roots in a carbendazim or potassium permanganate solution for about 20 minutes, then place it in a cool, ventilated spot to dry.

4. After the roots have dried, prepare a sterilized knife and use it to cut the small plantlets off the clivia mother plant. To ensure the survival rate of the plantlets, when dividing the roots it is best to keep several more roots, so the plantlets can take root quickly and grow more roots!

5. For the cut clivia divisions, apply carbendazim powder to the wounds, which achieves a sterilizing effect, then place them in a cool spot to dry!

6. Once the clivia divisions have dried, they can be potted. Before potting, choose a loose, well-aerated soil as the growing medium. It is recommended to mix garden soil and perlite in a 3:1 ratio. Or add some microbial inoculant; the microbes improve the soil environment and let the young clivia plants adapt to the environment faster!

7. After potting, place the clivia in a cool, ventilated spot. With the help of the microbes improving the soil, the clivia divisions will adapt to the new soil environment in about 2 weeks, so 1 clivia can become several pots!

Spider plant

Actually, it is not only clivias that can be divided into pots; spider plants can too. Teacher Xiaoye often sees in the group many flower lovers sharing the spider plants they grow at home, and they really are green and thriving. Below we continue to share the division method for spider plants!

Method:

1. Prepare a sterilized knife and cut the young plantlets off the spider plant mother plant. To ensure the plantlets survive quickly, it is recommended to cut off more roots!

2. Prepare some well-aerated, well-draining soil. It is recommended to use leaf mold and sand in a 3:1 ratio as the growing medium. If you are worried that the young spider plants cannot adapt to the soil environment, you can also add some microbial inoculant, so the spider plants can adapt to the soil environment better.

3. Insert the cut small spider plants into the soil 2-3 cm deep, place them in a cool, ventilated spot, and after a period of time they can be cared for normally!
