Fig fruits are sweet and delicious, especially rich in nutrients, and relatively easy to grow. They are one of the potted fruits especially suitable for growing on balconies and terraces. Many friends want to grow a fig, but actually there is no need to buy seedlings, because you can use these two simple methods to propagate a fig yourself.

To grow figs, use these two methods, and in one year they will be lush and leafy, and covered with fruit the next year!

First is the division method. After a fig has grown for one or two years, it usually has multiple branches. In the potting soil, suckers with roots that sprout above the root system, although connected to the mother plant, can still be dug out together with their roots as separate rooted branches.

Replant them in a pot, first place them in a ventilated and shaded place to let the seedlings recover, then after about ten days place them in a sunny spot and water and care for them normally. It is equivalent to harvesting one or more fig seedlings again.

Another method is also very simple, which is cuttings from branches. How exactly do you take fig cuttings so they survive more easily? Choose cutting branches with buds, about 20 cm long. Soaking them in rooting water will help a lot, and rooting will also go more smoothly.

Insert the cuttings into a medium mixed with leaf mold and sand. Before cutting, expose the medium to the sun to bake it. When cutting, leave at least one bud head outside.

It is best to use plastic cups, or mineral water bottles, poke a ring of small holes in the bottom, then after inserting the cuttings, place these cups in a tray, put some sand or small stones in the tray, pour water in, and you can cover the top with a layer of plastic film to maintain a certain air humidity. When the humidity is sufficient, sprouting is also faster.

With this method, roots can begin to grow in less than a month, and sprouting is especially fast. After growing four or five tender leaves, they can be transplanted into pots.

Transplant them together with the soil into flower pots. During the seedling recovery period, do not expose them to strong sun; placing them in a bright spot on the balcony is enough. Water promptly when you see the soil is dry. But do not let water accumulate.

As the seedlings gradually grow, fertilize them often. Whether it is decomposed cake fertilizer or fermented chicken manure fertilizer, cow manure fertilizer, and so on, frequently apply some fertilizer water. As the fig plant grows larger and larger, also change it into a larger flower pot.

Figs propagated by cuttings or division this year will bear many fruits the next year, all over the branches. When ripe, they are incredibly delicious!

Figs also overwinter very easily, because they are relatively cold-tolerant. Even if it snows lightly, it is fine to leave them outdoors on the terrace.
