Kalanchoe has emerald-green leaves and brilliant flowers, and is a common potted flowering plant in homes. Now that autumn has arrived, how should Kalanchoe be grown? Here is an introduction for everyone!

(1). Water when completely dry

Kalanchoe is a succulent plant and does not need much water. When watering, be sure to wait until the potting soil is completely dry, otherwise the soil can easily stay moist for a long time and cause root rot. In autumn and winter, the transpiration of the leaves weakens, so watering must be reduced; wait until the soil surface turns white, then water thoroughly.

(2). Fertilize appropriately

In autumn, Kalanchoe can be fertilized a little more, which helps it produce flower buds and bloom more and more brilliantly. It also prevents the flower buds from dropping. Mainly apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. The concentration of the fertilizer should not be too high; it is recommended to dilute it before use.

(3). Suitable environment

Kalanchoe likes a warm environment. In autumn and winter, when the temperature drops, it needs to be moved indoors in time for care to avoid cold damage. The temperature should not be lower than 10°C, otherwise it can easily die. When grown indoors where the air is dry, you can spray water appropriately to keep the leaves emerald green and increase the air humidity.

(4). Prune appropriately

If the stems and leaves of Kalanchoe are found to be growing too long, you can prune it appropriately, otherwise it will affect the number and quality of the flowers. Cut off the leggy stems and leaves; these stems and leaves can be used for cuttings. Pruning is also needed during the growing season to maintain the plant shape. When it reaches about 15cm, cut off the top stems and leaves to encourage new stems and leaves to sprout.

(5). Plenty of light

Kalanchoe must have plenty of light, and it is best to keep the light duration at 8-9 hours per day. Apart from midsummer at noon, when it should be slightly shaded, it should be placed in a sunny spot the rest of the time.
