How to Grow Potted Roses and Key Points to Note

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Potting soil: For growing roses, you can use porcelain or terracotta pots with good air permeability; it is best not to use plastic pots. Light: Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure, and provide shade in summer. Watering: When the potting soil becomes hard and turns whitish, water as soon as possible, and water thoroughly each time. Fertilizing: Apply a base fertilizer once before winter, and apply top dressing 2-3 times during the growing season. Temperature: Give it a growing environment of 15-25°C, not lower than 5°C or higher than 30°C.

1. Potting Soil

Potted roses need a suitable pot; porcelain pots can be used, and the pot should have good air permeability. Plastic pots cost relatively little but have poor air permeability. When using them, pay attention: there is a hole at the bottom of the pot, and do not block this hole, because it is the channel for air exchange in plastic pots. It is recommended that you choose terracotta pots whenever possible.

2. Light

In general, potted roses should avoid prolonged direct sun exposure as much as possible, and in summer, try not to leave them on the balcony for too long. If conditions permit, you can provide the flowers with appropriate shade; generally, direct sunlight should not exceed 5 hours.

3. Watering

Roses like water, so when watering, be sure to water thoroughly. The frequency of watering should be adjusted according to the pot and the degree to which the soil is dry. Generally, when the potting soil is relatively hard and slightly whitish, it is time to water; remember to water thoroughly every time.

4. Fertilizing

When fertilizing roses, be sure to follow the principle of applying thin fertilizer frequently. Generally, before they enter dormancy in winter, you can apply a base fertilizer once, and during the growing season you can apply top dressing two to three times. As for fertilizer, it is recommended that you buy some organic fertilizer available on the market; the formula of this kind of fertilizer is already prepared, so you can apply it directly. When spraying fertilizer on the leaves, be sure to control the fertilizer concentration each time.

5. Temperature

The most suitable growing temperature for roses is between 15°C and 25°C. If the temperature exceeds 30°C, its growth will be hindered. And when the winter temperature is lower than 5°C, it will enter dormancy; during dormancy, water and fertilize as little as possible.

6. Pest and Disease Control

Roses like a moist environment with good air circulation, so there is no need to specially spray water in summer. For home flower growing, the most common insect pest is red spider mites; it is recommended that you capture them manually as much as possible. For rust disease and soft rot, you can use a little broad-spectrum medicine such as carbendazim.
