What causes a Radermachera sinica (China doll) to drop its leaves

There are many reasons a Radermachera sinica drops its leaves: if the leaf drop is caused by normal metabolism or aging renewal, there is no need to worry. If it is caused by overwatering or underwatering, you need to add water when too little has been given, and control the amount of watering when too much has been given; it is better to keep it on the dry side than too wet. If it is caused by too much fertilizer or the application of raw fertilizer, you need to use the method of flushing with water to reduce the fertilizer content in the potting soil.

1. Metabolism

If the leaf drop of the Radermachera sinica is not serious and only one leaf falls after a long time, it is relatively normal, because it is an evergreen plant; its leaves do not fail to drop, but they also drop after an interval, and this is normal metabolism. The difference lies in the quantity and the timing; generally, normal leaf drop occurs one leaf at a time, and the old leaves at the bottom drop.

2. Aging renewal

If the interval between two falling leaves is relatively long, this situation can basically be judged as aging renewal. With normal renewal leaf drop, before the leaf falls it turns yellow and shrivels, and the entire leaf drops.

3. Improper watering

Cause: When the root system is damaged, in order to reduce water evaporation, when the plant self-regulates, the number of leaves that drop will be relatively large, and the interval between two leaves dropping will be shorter, sometimes only a few days. This root damage is caused by too much or too little watering.

Solution: If too little water has been given, replenish the water in time; if too much water has been given, control the amount of watering well. For water management, it is recommended to keep it on the dry side rather than too wet; watering thoroughly after the soil has dried out is better.

4. Improper fertilizing

Cause: If too much fertilizer is applied during care, or if the fertilizer applied contains raw fertilizer that has not fully fermented, this phenomenon will occur.

Solution: You can reduce the fertilizer content in the potting soil by flushing with water to wash out the fertilizer.
