No matter how much you love growing mint, don't plant it in your yard, or you'll soon regret it. Mint has a very strong spreading ability and can quickly cover a large area. Below, let me show you the mint I planted by the roadside, spreading as fast as a weed.

Mint is a perennial herbaceous plant. Its leaves carry a captivating fresh fragrance, and it has a great many varieties, most of which can be used, with a spicy aroma.

Most mint plants spread underground via stolons, with some creeping branches at the base. To prevent mint from spreading too much, you'd best plant it in a flower pot and keep it in a spot with appropriate sunlight. During the growing season, you can pinch off the tips regularly to control its shape.

Before planting mint, you first need to choose a suitable variety. If you want to use it for eating, you can choose peppermint, spearmint, chocolate mint, apple mint and lemon mint, among others.

Choose a cool, moist spot for growing mint; it doesn't need too much sunlight. Of course, it can also grow well in a sunny spot, but then you'll need to water it regularly. Just 3-6 hours or more of indirect light per day is enough for it to grow well.

To grow mint well, the key is to keep the environment well ventilated and well lit, and avoid keeping it in an enclosed space, otherwise it is very prone to black rot or powdery mildew.

When growing mint, you should still choose a relatively deep and wide container, because its root system grows very vigorously. If the pot is too small, it will restrict its growth. Of course, the potting soil must have good drainage; don't choose some heavy, sticky soil or soil that easily compacts.

If you want a continuous harvest of mint, you need to pinch off the tips regularly. When the branches grow long, cut them off; this encourages constant branching. Generally, don't leave each branch too long, or it will grow too straggly.

Mint has strong cold tolerance and fairly good drought tolerance, and its adaptability to the environment is especially strong. As long as you avoid waterlogged soil or excessive shade, it will grow well.

Mint can be used to make salads or mint tea. It is very nutritious and can help relieve stomach discomfort and other issues. A few leaves can be added when preparing lamb, salads and so on, and it is also very suitable for making cocktails or desserts.
