The jade plant (Crassula ovata) has a tall, elegant crown, rugged and age-old-looking branches, and peculiar leaf shapes that resemble green jade. Generally in summer and autumn, it bursts into full bloom with green and white intermingled, giving a fresh and unique feeling, and it is deeply loved by many flower enthusiasts.

Caring for a jade plant in autumn requires certain techniques. Today Huar will introduce them to everyone: know these 3 points well, and you will have thick branches, plump leaves, a graceful jade plant, and flowers all over the branches, extraordinarily beautiful!

1. Mounding soil and fertilizing

The jade plant's root system is not well developed and has no main root. Many fibrous roots cannot penetrate deeply, and some of them lie on the surface of the potting soil, so you need to mound soil around it. You can use leaf mold and sandy soil to increase soil aeration. After thoroughly mixing them at a 1:1 ratio, directly mound the soil into the flowerpot, high in the middle and low around the edges. Before mounding the soil, you can first sprinkle a layer of bone meal or worm castings powder on the surface to increase soil fertility.

2. Light

The jade plant loves light. After autumn begins, sunlight intensity gradually decreases, so you can move it to a spot with ample light for care and let it receive about 10 hours of light per day. If it is in the flowering period, during the bud-forming and blooming stage, you can give it dark treatment: from after 5 p.m. each day until 8 a.m. the next morning, keep it in complete darkness. You can cover it with a black plastic bag or box to encourage more buds and brighter flowers.

3. Pruning

The jade plant has fairly strong sprouting ability and grows relatively fast, so you should promptly remove excess side shoots, and also prune away crossing branches, leggy branches, and old, weak, diseased or damaged ones, reducing nutrient consumption, making the plant fuller and more emerald green, and increasing its ornamental value.

That is all for jade plant care. If flower enthusiasts have other additions, you can share them with everyone in the comment section below. If you want to learn more about flower growing, you can follow Huajianke!
