How should parrot fish be kept to develop a head? Hangtai Aquarium offers some tips

Some fish keepers may find it strange that parrot fish can also develop a head. Yes, they can, it is just that the breed being kept is different. The most common one is the flat-headed blood parrot, and there are a great many people keeping this type of parrot fish, so it may be in everyone's subconscious that parrot fish do not develop a head. In fact, parrot fish can achieve the effect of developing a head during the rearing process, so how can they be made to develop a head well during keeping?
How parrot fish develop a head depends on meeting many conditions, such as genes, feeding, environmental stimulation and so on. When it comes to parrot fish developing a head, it can generally be divided into hard head and water head. Next, let us briefly analyse parrot fish head development.
First, the genes must be up to standard. Without good genetic inheritance, no matter how good the methods adopted are, it is impossible to achieve a good head development effect. Parrot fish that can develop a head generally inherit the red devil genes, so if you want to choose a parrot that can develop a head, look for a better one that has been bred with a red devil.
Another important point is feeding. In fact, for types with small head development such as the king kong parrot fish and types with relatively large head development such as the wealth god parrot fish, you can appropriately mix in some flowerhorn feed when feeding. Flowerhorn feed contains trace elements that can make fish develop a head, and its effect on parrot fish head development is very obvious.
Environmental stimulation is also an important aspect of how parrot fish develop a head. For some parrot fish, the head shrinks when they are frightened. In most cases, this is caused by the fish's head being a water head, so the fish must be prevented from being frightened. At the same time, the water quality environment is also an important point. You must accumulate more fish-keeping knowledge in ordinary times, especially knowledge about water quality, so as to lay a solid foundation before keeping parrot fish.
In addition, two types are involved: hard head and water head. Hard-head parrot fish generally do not show head shrinkage after developing a head, and are a relatively good type. Of course, they are also slightly more expensive than water-head ones. For water-head parrot fish, head shrinkage may occur. This kind of water-head parrot fish generally develops a larger head when it is in an excited state under external environmental stimulation, and of course the head shrinks back when it is frightened or sick, making it quite hard to predict.
