The ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) has thick, glossy green leaves and an especially auspicious name. Keeping a ZZ plant in the living room or office is a really great choice!

The ZZ plant's beauty lies in its leaves, and the problem most likely to occur when growing it is yellow leaves. So how can you prevent ZZ plant leaves from turning yellow?

1. The soil must be suitable

Whether a ZZ plant can be grown well depends on soil as the most critical foundation. We don't necessarily have to use especially good soil for it, but it must be loose, breathable, and well-draining!

When mixing soil for a ZZ plant, granular soil must make up more than half of the ratio, so that its drainage and breathability can be guaranteed! For example, if you want to use garden soil to grow a ZZ plant, then it must be mixed with 60% river sand! Otherwise, the ZZ plant will be very hard to grow well!

2. Water and fertilizer must be suitable

When growing a ZZ plant, once you have loose, breathable soil, whether it can be grown well later depends entirely on water and fertilizer! The ZZ plant is relatively fond of water, but it is not tolerant of water. If you usually water it too little and it stays in a dry state for a long time, its leaf tips and leaf edges will dry out. But if you water too much and the potting soil stays too wet for a long time, its roots will rot, and then yellow leaves will appear!

So you can insert a wooden stick into the ZZ plant's pot, pull it out every one or two days to take a look, and as long as the stick is dry and no soil sticks to it, water it right away. When watering, you must water thoroughly. If you don't water thoroughly, the roots at the bottom won't be able to absorb water, and the watering will have been wasted!

In addition,If you want the ZZ plant's leaves to be thick and shiny, it is best to give it a compound fertilizer once a month. If growing it indoors, place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight. Only when light and fertility are sufficient will its leaves grow thick, large, green, and shiny!

The ZZ plant is very easy to grow. As long as you remember these two points, yellow leaves will definitely not appear!
