Autumn temperatures are pleasant and sunshine is abundant, which is very suitable for plant growth, but in order to withstand the coming winter, you must do a good job of flower care and management in autumn. What exactly do you need to pay attention to?
Watering
In autumn, as temperatures gradually turn cooler, apart from continuing to water autumn-sown flowers and grasses that bloom in autumn, winter or early spring as normal, other flowers should be watered less often. Follow the rule of not watering until the potting soil is dry, so as to avoid excessive water and fertilizer, which can cause flowers to grow leggy stems and leaves and affect flower bud differentiation and cold damage.
As for the timing of watering, in autumn it is best to water at noon or in the afternoon, so that the water temperature is close to the soil temperature, which helps absorption and avoids damaging the roots.
Increase light exposure
In autumn, flowers should get more light. Flowers that were placed in shady spots in summer, such as broadleaf lady palm, Brazil ironwood, rubber tree, Swiss cheese plant and asparagus fern, should be moved in autumn to a place with sunlight in both the morning and evening. At the same time, apply a nitrogen-based fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which can both make the flowers grow strong and luxuriant and improve their cold resistance after winter sets in.
Autumn fertilizing tips
Tailor the teaching to the student, and fertilize according to the plant; the method is quite simple. For plants that bloom in autumn, to ensure vivid blooms, fertilizing focuses on supplementing phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer; for plants that are in their growing period and growing normally in autumn, sufficient nutrients are needed even more, so water with some dilute fertilizer solution, or apply a little rotted farmyard manure; for foliage plants in their growing period, appropriately add a little nitrogen fertilizer; for plants that gradually enter dormancy starting in autumn, appropriately reduce the nitrogen fertilizer content to avoid affecting overwintering; for bulbous plants and aromatic plants, you can appropriately apply a little phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer.
Move indoors at the right time
In southern regions, after Cold Dew the temperature drops rapidly, and at this point you should, according to the different cold tolerance of each plant, selectively move plants indoors. Be careful not to rush to move flowers indoors; entering indoors too early will affect the accumulation of nutrients and is not good for plant growth, so as long as the plants are not suffering from cold, you can delay moving them indoors.
