The beauty of orchids cannot be explained in just a few words. But orchid care can be explained clearly word by word. For example, orchids should be cared for in a "conservative" way, and beginners especially need to pay attention.

Water with restraint

Watering orchids takes 3 years of practice. This is widely recognized by many flower lovers. Too much water easily leads to root rot, yellow leaves and no flowers. If watered too little, the roots cannot absorb water and become hollow, and the plant becomes short and does not bloom. So when watering orchids, you should water only when dry and let them get wet. Water a small amount, water thoroughly each time, and water slowly. It is more suitable to water after the potting soil is almost dry. Remember not to wait until the orchid has been dry for a long time before watering; orchids cannot stand drought.

The climate varies from place to place, and the soil differs quite a lot, so watering times will also differ. Generally, in spring and autumn, water about once every 3 days. In summer, when temperatures are high, water 1-2 times a day, usually in the morning and evening, not at noon. In winter, water less and mist more. It is best to water at noon, and place the water next to the orchid pot for a few hours before watering.

Hold back a little when fertilizing

When beginner flower lovers buy an orchid, they always cannot help wanting to fertilize more to make the orchid grow faster. But when fertilizing, you still need to hold back a little and adopt the method of frequent light fertilization. If it is special orchid fertilizer bought from the store, it is best to fertilize according to the instructions, adjust the water dilution ratio properly. In any case, you need to hold back a little. Otherwise, too much fertilizer easily causes orchid leaves to turn yellow and prevents new shoots from growing.

If you are a flower lover who makes your own fertilizer, for example, using vegetable leaves, fruit peels and rice-washing water to ferment organic fertilizer, the fermentation time should be longer, preferably about 1 month, to ensure complete fermentation and fewer residual bacteria. Before the bud stage, appropriately use potassium dihydrogen phosphate to promote flower bud differentiation and produce more beautiful flowers.

Expose orchids to a little less sunlight

If you are growing orchids for the first time and do not know the growth habits of orchids, and think that all flowering plants like strong light, then you are wrong. Orchids are shade-loving plants. Usually we should keep orchids under scattered light, so that orchids can grow leaves and flower buds at the same time.

If the light is too strong, not only will the growth and development of the orchid be hindered, but the leaves will also easily scorch, turn yellow and lose their luster. So either keep them indoors or place them in a shaded area outdoors.

The soil should be coarse

The soil needed for orchid growth must be relatively loose, breathable and well-draining. There is no need to use overly fine nutrient soil. Add some pine bark, leaf mold, crushed sand and gravel, and a little garden soil, and that is about enough. It looks rather coarse, but it drains and breathes well, and it is not easy to damage the roots. For flower lovers who find it troublesome, just use special orchid soil.

Caring for orchids is somewhat difficult if you say it is difficult, and there is also reason to say it is not difficult. The key is that you need to master the growth habits of orchids and care for them according to their temperament.
