This plant with an imposing name has a beautiful form and is easy to grow; keeping one at home symbolizes good fortune and wishes coming true

There are countless plants in nature, and their names are just as varied. The flower I want to share with you today is called 'Ruyi Queen' (Aglaonema 'Ruyi')! Despite its imposing name, it is actually a very easy plant to grow. Ruyi Queen is also known as Ruyi Evergreen (Aglaonema), with a small, compact and beautiful form and colorful leaves. Although it belongs to the Araceae family along with plants like Alocasia and pothos, Ruyi Queen is completely non-toxic. It can also purify indoor air, and it can be grown either hydroponically or in soil. It stays vibrant all year round, symbolizing good fortune and harmony. Get one and grow it right away!
Ruyi Queen prefers loose, fertile, sandy soil rich in humus. It likes a semi-shaded growing environment, but also enjoys warm sunlight. In summer it needs shading, otherwise the plant will grow poorly and the leaves will turn yellow or scorch. Being too shaded for a long time will cause the colorful parts of the Ruyi Queen's leaves to gradually diminish and the spots to fade, and it will be difficult for it to bloom. Therefore, the growing environment should provide ample diffused light and a humid growing environment, so that the Ruyi Queen's leaves stay vivid and glossy.
The humid growing environment mentioned here does not mean watering it more. During normal care, just keep the potting soil slightly moist. When the air is dry, mist the leaves frequently to maintain a certain level of air humidity.
Ruyi Queen likes warmth. It grows best at a daytime temperature of 30°C and a nighttime temperature of 25°C. In winter it can tolerate a low temperature of 10°C, but it can only grow normally above 15°C. If you want the Ruyi Queen's leaves to be thick and glossy, you also need an adequate fertilizer supply. During the vigorous growth period, apply a compound fertilizer with a full range of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium twice a month, together with diluted, decomposed organic fertilizer water, pouring it around the roots of the plant. This can make the roots and stems sturdy and the leaves large and brightly colored.
Pruning the Ruyi Queen is also very simple. Cut off the leaves at the bottom that have already turned yellow or are growing poorly, so that nutrients are concentrated on supplying the healthy branches and leaves. Alternatively, cut away the overly dense leaves inside the plant to increase its airiness, which helps keep the plant's form attractive and the leaves healthier.
Many flower enthusiasts think that Ruyi Queen is a foliage plant and will not bloom. In fact, plants over three years old can bloom. Its normal flowering period is between April and May each year, and it has the flower form unique to plants in the Araceae family. When it blooms, the white-green inflorescence is wrapped in a layer of pale green spathe. Compared with its colorful leaves, the flowers are not very ornamental. So when growing Ruyi Queen, even if it does not bloom, it still has a certain ornamental value.
