How to care for Crassulaceae succulents in summer? With the right soil mix, they can still grow even in the heat

Most Crassulaceae plants grow a bit faster in spring, autumn and winter. Apart from a few summer-growing species that are very obviously active in spring and autumn, once summer temperatures get too high they will not show an especially fast growth rate either. The main task in summer is still to get through it safely, so the soil mix needs to take into account the characteristics of southern weather. When humidity is especially high, the soil's air permeability and drainage performance should be strengthened.
Generally choose granular soil. The more common granular soils on the market include akadama, hyuga pumice, kanuma soil, perlite, pumice and ranzan, etc. Reduce the proportion of peat and vermiculite, etc. Of course, during the spring growing season you can ensure a combination of peat and compound fertilizer, and when preparing for summer you can switch to a mix based mainly on granular soil media. For the date to complete the soil change, you can refer to the timing in suggestion one, which also ensures time for the plants to recover.
For succulent plant care, there needs to be a ventilated environment. They cannot be kept indoors all the time, and it is not recommended to put them in an air-conditioned room. In a stuffy, hot and humid environment, the air does not circulate, which is not conducive to water evaporation, and it is difficult to lower the temperature, and it can also easily lead to root rot.
For shading, ventilation and water control, try to place the plants in a well-ventilated spot, do not put them in a closed space, and ensure fresh air circulation. For shading you can use shade netting. In early summer and late summer you can use 75% shade netting, and when the sunlight is especially strong you can use 50% shade rate netting.
Succulent plants are divided into two types: summer-growing and winter-growing. Winter-growing types go dormant in summer and grow in winter, so they need shading in summer. Summer-growing types also must not be exposed to harsh high temperatures and blazing sun. About 2-3 hours of sun per day is enough, then they can be placed outdoors, but a sunshade net must be put up. It is strongly not recommended to water in the morning and at noon, or when the pot soil is at a high temperature. When watering, be careful not to let the temperature difference be too large. In addition, note that in summer you should not water until it soaks through, and do not let water droplets remain on the plant leaves or the growth point in the center of the rosette.
Pay attention to the management of old succulent stems. The stems and root systems of old stems are heavily lignified, and dried old leaves easily rot and breed bacteria, so dried old leaves should be removed promptly to keep the pot soil clean. For old stems bought directly, it is not recommended to plant them directly without root trimming. The old roots often contain a large number of fine feeder roots mixed with a lot of soil impurities and bacteria, etc., and in a high-temperature environment they easily rot, leading to black rot of the old stem.
