Zhengtonghe, also known as Dafugui, carries the meaning of great wealth and high honor. It was selected in a Shanghai flower cellar in the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty; there is also a small story behind this.

It is said that the Zheng Tongmei family of Shuanglin selected the same variety and also once named an orchid Zhengtonghe. However, afterward, based on comparisons of this orchid's flower shape and leaf type, it was discovered that it was actually one orchid given two names. Later, following the customary naming in orchid-growing circles, Zhengtonghe was adopted as the proper name.

Zhengtonghe's petal type is the lotus petal type, characterized by three outer petals that are long and broad, with a finely tapered base and tightly rolled edges, short rounded central petals, and a large liu hai tongue. The flower bud color of Cymbidium goeringii 'Zhengtonghe'is pure green with a glossy sheen. The bud leaves are purple, the leaves broad and thick in texture, with blunt leaf tips and an arched shape. It is a typical famous flower of the lotus petal type. Some plants even produce two flowers on one scape.
