When it comes to sunflowers, the most memorable thing is the name "can't die" - indeed, they are very hard to kill, tossed in a pot with little care, occasionally watered, and they still bloom. And cuttings are also very easy, just cut a segment of branch and stick it in soil to survive. However, sunflowers, being herbaceous flowers, either freeze to death in winter or naturally die of old age, always huddled in the flower pot like a clump of grass, seemingly always a supporting role. But some masters have grown sunflowers into bonsai old stumps, let's take a look?

Sunflower"

-Sunflower old stump-

First, look at this sunflower that is over ten years old, made into two layers by a flower enthusiast. It really doesn't look like the sunflower we sow in spring, which looks like grass. It is said that someone offered a high price to buy it, but they were reluctant to sell!

In fact, the flower enthusiast's sunflower was initially also like the picture below, a messy herbaceous flower. So, how did they turn the sunflower into a bonsai? It turns out there are some little tricks here!

-Sunflower grafting-

The method to grow this kind of sunflower old stump is grafting! First, choose a tall sunflower that easily branches as the rootstock, such as the Spark variety! The Spark plant is relatively tall and easily branches on the side, also called Hawaii Rose, the flower color is not very stable, and it will bloom pure yellow and other colors, and the flowers are also very beautiful!

Find some sunflower varieties you like, cut off their branches, cut both sides diagonally into a wedge shape, dry them slightly, and use them as scions.

Cut off the branches of the rootstock, keep about 7cm, then split the rootstock branch from the middle, insert the scion, and fix it with a small rope or clip.

You can also use the side grafting method, make a diagonal cut on the rootstock, cut one side of the scion diagonally, the length matching the rootstock cut, then insert it, and wrap and fix it with plastic film.

Whether needle-leaved or broad-leaved, after grafting the sunflower, cut off some branches and leaves at the bottom of the rootstock, trim it into a shape, and it becomes a beautiful sunflower bonsai!

As long as the effort is deep, an iron rod can be ground into a needle
