Recently, Gu Niang has seen flower lovers asking questions, saying that the orchids they grow have actually developed yellow leaves. In fact, yellow leaves appear because of carelessness in care, so when growing orchids, you must first understand their growth habits. Gu Niang lists below several reasons why orchid leaves turn yellow. Flower lovers can see whether these are the points they are doing wrong.

1. Uncomfortable "living" conditions

Orchid leaves turning yellow is related to where they "live", that is, their growing environment. Orchids like ventilated places with humid air. If you water orchids in an environment without ventilation, their leaves will turn yellow, because without ventilation the water cannot evaporate and will accumulate in the pot, causing the root system to rot. Once the root system rots, the leaves turn yellow along with it.

So flower lovers should place orchids in a ventilated place. An electric fan can be used for ventilation, but try not to let the fan blow directly at the orchid plant, otherwise it will blow it crooked and affect its beauty. You should also frequently spray water in the orchid's growing environment to increase air humidity and meet the orchid's needs for its growing environment.

2. "Drinking" the wrong amount

Flower lovers all know that watering orchids takes three years of skill! Watering affects the growth of orchids. If you water too little, the orchid will have empty roots; if you water too much, water will accumulate in the pot, the roots cannot breathe, and they will slowly rot. The leaves will also become dull and lusterless, and even if there are new shoots, they will wither.

How should you water correctly? Flower lovers can take a bamboo stick, insert it into the potting soil, take it out after a while, and then water according to whether the bamboo stick is dry or wet. Water when dry, do not water when not dry. If it is a plastic pot, you can weigh it before and after watering, then estimate when it should be watered. For ceramic pots, in spring and winter just keep the potting soil from drying out, and in summer water once every 3-5 days.

3. "Eating" the wrong thing

Many flower lovers, when growing orchids, always treat them like their own children and often fertilize them, or fertilize without regard to their growth stage, fertilizing whenever they feel like it. This will affect the growth of the orchid. Old leaves will turn yellow and fall off, and new leaves will grow unevenly and not spread out smoothly.

So when fertilizing, flower lovers should keep in mind to apply thin fertilizer frequently. During the growth period, fertilize more, and you can use an organic liquid fertilizer specially for orchids every 10-15 days, diluted 500 times with water. In this way, you can supplement the orchid's nutrition without causing yellow leaves due to improper fertilization. If you use organic fertilizer, remember that it must be decomposed.

4. Too much "sun"

Some flower lovers may forget to shade the orchid, or think that in autumn it needs more sun. In fact, orchids are plants that like semi-shade. If given too much light, the leaf tips will scorch and turn yellow. So when growing orchids, there is no need to give them too much or too strong light.

Just place it in a spot with diffused light, but not in summer. In summer, only before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. can the orchid be fully exposed to the sun. This is to avoid the harm to the orchid caused by the sun being too harsh in summer. If conditions allow, flower lovers should still pull up a shade net.

The above are the reasons why orchid leaves turn yellow. I wonder whether flower lovers did these things that caused their orchid leaves to turn yellow? If so, correct them in time; if not, also take precautions!
