When many flower lovers learn about roses, they see the category of rose listed as cut-flower rose, so what does cut-flower rose mean? What is a cut-flower rose? In fact, cut-flower rose is just one type of rose, mainly used for commercial cut flowers, for fresh cut flowers, that is, the "roses" in flower shops. It differs in some characteristics from the roses we usually see, and it mainly comes from large-flowered roses and hybrid roses.

The flower stalks of cut-flower roses are straight and graceful, with large, brightly colored blooms. Their stalks can reach a certain length, at least 30cm or more, the flowers open slowly, and the petals are relatively thick, so they can maintain a beautiful flower shape for a long time, and are therefore used for indoor decoration and appreciation.

Besides buying cut-flower roses in flower shops, many flower lovers also cannot resist trying it themselves to see whether they can grow the same kind of rose, but often a roadblock stands in their way, and this roadblock is the problem of controlling the plant shape of cut-flower roses. If the plant shape is not controlled well, the whole cut-flower rose loses its elegance and cannot reach the level of flower shops.

Therefore, if you want cut-flower roses to bloom as beautifully as those in flower shops, you must do one "action." This action is pruning. When doing it ourselves, we must pay attention to the issue of pruning. In winter, be sure to prune hard to about 15 cm above the ground (for transplanted seedlings over one year old). When shortening the main branches, you can keep a certain height difference, so that the adventitious buds that sprout are not at the same height, and after maturing they form a sloped shape at the top of the branches (one side high and one side low). If you prefer a neat branch-top shape, you can also prune them level, according to your own preference.

After sprouting in spring, what needs to be done is bud removal. This task is also essential. Inward-facing buds and clustered secondary buds must be resolutely removed, and only 2 to 3 bud points should be kept on each branch. These two steps, pruning and bud removal, can help us determine the plant shape and ensure the shape of the branches, and at the same time also lay the foundation for the quantity and quality of flowering.

Some flower lovers also ask: I do not want to prune, I do not want to remove buds, so if I just let it grow on its own, can it grow into that form? In fact, another function of our pruning is to carry out artificial control, because most cut-flower rose branches do not have the habit of growing outward, and basically grow upright upward.

If left unchecked, it will grow into a single stem, and in order to avoid the crossing and crowding of internal branches and leaves, while also taking into account ventilation and light, as well as the production of blind flower branches, artificial intervention in growth is still very important.

In addition, fertilizer is also essential. Only when the nutrition is sufficient can all the measures we take to control the plant shape work. Otherwise, even if it is pruned, it will still grow wildly and completely refuse to obey.

Another point is that cut-flower roses are very sensitive to fertilizer. If no additional fertilizer is applied, they will be malnourished, with small plants, dull flower color, and poor flower shape, and the fullness of the plant shape will not be enough, completely failing to bring out the charm of cut-flower roses. Therefore, flower lovers can use an organic liquid fertilizer specially for roses, diluted 500 times, and apply it once a week.

The roses in flower shops are beautiful and elegant, but as long as we care for them attentively, home-grown cut-flower roses are in no way inferior in presence, and even surpass them.
