Growing succulents in autumn, learn this "1 trick" and you'll no longer worry about root rot caused by "overwatering"!

In the process of caring for succulents, we encounter all kinds of things. Root rot is something we often run into. Most of the time, succulent root rot is caused by soil that is too wet and potting soil that is not breathable. To keep succulents far from root rot, we can do this.

Soil that is too wet is mainly caused by overwatering, a poorly ventilated environment, and prolonged rain exposure. After watering our succulents, we should strengthen the ventilation of the environment. In an outdoor growing environment, moisture evaporates relatively quickly after watering, so root rot from overwatering basically does not happen. But indoor succulents often get root rot because of this condition.

When growing succulents indoors, place them next to a window, and open the window after watering. When necessary, a fan can be used to strengthen air circulation. Although outdoor succulents have very good ventilation, prolonged rain exposure can also cause root rot. Outdoor succulents can take rain, but if it keeps raining and the soil stays wet without drying out, the roots will rot too. So when long periods of rain come, we should shelter them from the rain in time. If it only rains for a while, then you can leave them unsheltered.

Besides controlling watering, we can also work on two aspects: the flower pot and the soil. First, the flower pot. The bottom of the pot must have drainage holes. Especially for friends who like to water a lot, there can be more drainage holes, but there must not be none. Pots of different materials have different degrees of breathability. Ceramic pots have relatively good breathability, followed by plastic pots and porcelain pots.

Using ceramic pots to grow succulents in an outdoor environment, basically the soil will dry out one or two days after watering, and if you do not water for three or four days, the succulents will show symptoms of water shortage. This is quite suitable for friends who have just got into the hobby and love to water their succulents. For friends who do not really like to water their succulents, using plastic pots or porcelain pots is better.

After choosing the flower pot, we can mix the soil. The larger the proportion of granular soil, the better the drainage of the soil. For the soil ratio, we need to look at the state of the succulent. For small seedlings, succulents need a lot of water to grow in the early stage. The soil not only needs good breathability, but also needs some water retention, so the proportion of granular soil can be about 50 percent. If it is a mature plant, it can be about 70 percent.

For granular soil, you can choose some with a harder texture. Granular soil that is too soft tends to soften, and it will even float up after watering, so choose carefully. If you want succulents not to get root rot in autumn, we can deal with it from these aspects. Repot the ones that need repotting, and quickly change the ones whose method needs changing. When you grow succulents, do you often run into root rot?
