If you want peonies to grow well and bloom beautifully, then management is naturally indispensable. The management methods for peonies are relatively simple; the focus of their daily care is water and fertilizer.

How should peonies be watered?

Peonies prefer dry conditions over wet ones. If they are planted in the ground, they do not need watering except during dry seasons.

For potted peonies, watering must strictly follow the principle of watering thoroughly only after the soil has dried out completely. Never water them just because you happen to think of it.

Spring is the period of rapid growth for peonies, so you can water a bit more and keep water and nutrients plentiful.

In summer, keep moisture adequate. During consecutive rainy days, be careful to prevent water from accumulating in the pot; if the pot is small, you can simply tip it on its side.

In autumn, pay attention to controlling water. Do not water too much in autumn, otherwise it easily causes peonies to sprout in autumn, and if they sprout in autumn, they will not bloom in spring.

In winter, keep the potting soil relatively dry. Very large pots do not need watering; for large pots, water once; for small pots, water according to how dry or moist the potting soil is.

Water quality requirements

Peonies prefer clear water over cloudy, and clean, soft water is best for watering. Before watering peonies with tap water, let it sit for a day first so the chlorine can dissipate.

Be careful never to water peonies with dirty water. The water temperature for watering peonies is best at room temperature, especially in summer, when cold water must not be used.

Watering time

In spring, watering should be done around 10 a.m.; in summer, it should be done in the evening; in winter, you may not need to water, and if you do, it should also be done at noon.
