Actually, many people like bonsai and also like growing bonsai. That is because it gives people a lot of spiritual enjoyment, but many people find a problem. That is, why is the bonsai they grow themselves not as good as the ones others grow? When they ask experts how to care for them, the experts just say basic things like water when dry and keep it moist when wet. Maybe if they say a bit more, it is that you need to see what tree species it is. In the circle there is a saying: growing trees and watering all take 3 years of practice. It can be seen that watering is not a simple matter.

Sometimes friends in the circle ask: My pine, what kind of fertilizer should I give this potted tree? Actually, this is putting the cart before the horse. When potting a tree stump bonsai, the soil everyone mixes is already enough for the nutrients of the bonsai tree. But the same watering still produces different results.

Here I will share a few thoughts on watering. After all, I have been watering for several years. If you want to read this and immediately feel that you know how to water, that is still not very realistic. After all, good things all need time to be honed. They are not obtained easily. When watering normally, everyone can summarize more. Look more at how the plants change in the days after watering, and then summarize experience based on factors such as environmental temperature.

1. Look at the pot

There are many kinds of bonsai, and I will not introduce them too much here. Friends who are not very clear can look at past content. Then based on this pot, you need to be clear about one thing: the size of your pot, and also the breathability of the pot, etc. Here I will just talk about the commonly used clay pots and ceramic pots and purple clay pots.

Everyone knows that these bonsai pots have good breathability. Then according to the size of the tree species we plant, and also the amount of pot soil. We need to control the frequency of watering. Here let's talk about summer, and mention some typical weather. In summer with high temperatures, bonsai with less pot soil are most afraid of hot and dry pot soil. With little pot soil itself, in a high-temperature environment, the bonsai tree species will quickly dehydrate, and this is quite dangerous. People living on high floors should spray water more, or place the bonsai tree species using the soaking pot method. This way, first, it preserves moisture, and second, it cools the pot, so the temperature does not get too high and burn the roots to death. Those with ground contact can place many pots of bonsai together, connecting to the ground's energy. Or they can bury the pots with soil. This is mainly aimed at small bonsai or even smaller miniature bonsai.

2. Look at the soil

Every friend who grows flowers and plants actually has a different soil mixing ratio. Unless you have obsessive-compulsive disorder, you really use a scale to measure when mixing soil. Moreover, soil quality and soil quality also have slight differences. Generally, the mixed soil is required to have drainage, so based on the moisture retention and drainage of your pot soil. Mainly observe the surface of the pot soil. If you can observe that the pot soil and the pot have separated. Actually, it shows that the pot soil has already dried a bit too much. Then when watering, because of the soil mixing issue. When watering, you must do it twice, or multiple times. Simply put, first water the pot soil once, wait until the water seeps in, then do it again. Repeat multiple times until it is thoroughly watered.

3. Look at the leaves

Because the plants everyone grows are different, watering is certainly different. If you generalize, it definitely will not work. For example, cypress, Juniperus chinensis, privet, Podocarpus macrophyllus and so on have relatively thick and fleshy leaves. Everyone must have seen holly trees; holly leaves have a waxy layer on top. This waxy layer can help the plant retain water. So look at what state the leaves of the plant you grow are in to decide how much you water. The most direct thing is that if you see the leaves have wilted, then there is no need to say more, go water quickly.

4. Look at the season

Just now above I also said that different seasons also mean different watering. Seasons affect many factors, roughly summarized as temperature. The most obvious change with the seasons is the change in temperature. High temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter, and in spring and autumn the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large. The change I am talking about is based on where I am in the Qinling area of the north. In summer with high temperatures, water evaporates quickly, so you need to water more. In winter there is less evaporation, so water less. In spring and autumn, water in the morning and evening. Some places have obvious seasonal changes, but some places do not have obvious changes. The specific situation still needs specific analysis.

The general watering is roughly these. If you want to grow your bonsai well. You need to summarize more. After all, growing flowers and planting grass are all work that takes skill. If you put in the time, there will naturally be rewards. Friends who like this, I will organize today's content into a video. Everyone can take a look.
