The start of autumn has arrived. Although the heat is hard to shake off right after the beginning of autumn, and the "autumn tiger" still has some lingering power, the beginning of autumn, also known as the handing over of autumn, generally means the weather is gradually turning cooler. For succulents, the beginning of autumn marks the end of summer, and the succulents that struggled so hard through summer have also ushered in their golden season of frantic growth!

Indeed, succulents no longer have to face the onslaught of high temperatures and scorching heat. But in September, the golden season for succulents, what should we do to get ready for it?

1. Watering

Since the beginning of autumn has just arrived, in the south the feeling of autumn is not yet very obvious, and conditions are still relatively hot. So the watering method is roughly the same as watering in summer. At the beginning of autumn, the whole succulent plant is still in a semi-dormant or slow-growing stage, so it is not yet suitable to directly increase the amount of water, as this can easily trigger root rot. So it is still recommended to keep watering at the same standard as in summer, and it is best to concentrate it in the evening, when the sunlight is not so intense!

2. Ventilation

Next is maintaining ventilation. Succulents are not flowers in a greenhouse; they do not need to be stifled in a greenhouse without access to outside air, so maintaining ventilation is important throughout the entire growth cycle of succulents. The beginning of autumn does not mean crisp autumn air, so letting them get some air in the morning, at noon and in the evening will make succulents more beautiful and healthier!

3. Shade

Then there is light. When the beginning of autumn arrives in the south, the sunlight is still just as fierce, and after the beginning of autumn it will continue for more than 1 month before the sun finally softens a little. So we still need to pay attention to sun protection for succulents. During the day, still place the succulents somewhere at home where the sunlight cannot reach, and then when evening comes or in the morning, when the sunlight is not so intense, you can move them out to get some sun. If you have a shade net, you can leave it in place for now.

4. Pest and disease prevention

Finally, there is the prevention and control of pests and diseases. Pests and diseases such as scale insects and black rot are still at their peak in September. Usually I keep a closer eye on how the plants are growing. Once I find an invasion of pests, I deal with it promptly to avoid harming the others, so prevention work must never be taken lightly.
