We all know that the temperature has now dropped, which means autumn has arrived, and winter is not far off. Those of you who love growing plants should start thinking about what kind of plants to grow. It is not that these plants need to be replanted, but rather that we should think about how to get the plants we have already grown before to multiply more. The several plants I introduce next are the most suitable for propagating in autumn.

The first plant is ivy. Ivy is a very common plant, and it is also very suitable for growing in autumn. What kind of characteristics does autumn have? We should all know: the weather is fairly cool, the temperature is not high, and a light breeze often blows. This season is very suitable for ivy to grow. If we take cuttings from ivy in this season, the success rate is as high as 99%. And in this season, if we prune the ivy, it can also promote its growth.

When we take cuttings from ivy, we only need to keep three nodes on a stem. We should remove the leaves at the very bottom. The usual practice is to soak it in rooting [hormone] for a while, and then we can choose either water culture or soil culture; both are fine, and it will quickly take root and sprout. However, if we want to use the soil culture method, we must keep the soil moist. If we choose the water culture method, then the ivy must not be exposed to sunlight, because if water-cultured ivy is exposed to sunlight, it tends to grow some green algae, which will absorb the ivy's nutrients and is not good for its growth.

The second plant is lucky bamboo. It is also suitable for propagating in autumn, and when propagating lucky bamboo you can choose either water culture or soil culture. If we want to use the water culture method, I suggest placing it on a table. As for the reason, well, figure it out for yourself! When we choose to propagate lucky bamboo, we generally use the cutting method.

That is, from the original lucky bamboo, cut off a small stem, generally about 12 cm. After cutting it off, we check whether there are leaves on it. If there are leaves at the bottom, then they must be removed; the leaves at the top can be kept, because if the bottom leaves are kept, it simply will not grow, and they will also absorb more nutrients, and the leaves will turn yellow. When we grow lucky bamboo, we choose the water culture method.

Generally, we cut the bottom of the lucky bamboo stem into a slanted cut, and then insert it into water. Because the lucky bamboo stem will definitely lean, we generally put in some small stones as well, in order to fix the lucky bamboo stem in place. After about a week, if we find that the lucky bamboo is growing very well, then we can basically be sure that it can grow well, and there is no need to worry about other problems.

The two plants I have introduced today are the most common ones, and the ones whose cultivation methods are easiest to master. In fact, to put it plainly, it is about understanding the growth habits of the plants, and then using different care methods according to the characteristics of different plants. As long as you master this point, I personally think that growing any plant is not a problem. As long as we are attentive, we can all grow them well.
