Dogs are highly intelligent animals around us. They were domesticated by human ancestors 40,000 years ago and have always stayed by humans' side, sharing a close bond with people. At first, domesticated dogs were tools to help ancestors hunt. Later, as times changed and society evolved, there were more and more dog breeds, and their functions kept changing too.

After hundreds of thousands of years of adapting to each other, the bond between humans and dogs has grown deeper and deeper, and their rapport has become stronger and stronger. In life, dogs play an important role, such as police dogs helping find clues and criminal suspects; guide dogs acting as eyes and hands, helping blind people cross the road safely; and pet dogs keeping humans company through boring and lonely times. Dogs are the animals on Earth with the closest relationship to humans, and also the most loyal to their owners.

A few days ago, heavy rain fell in Allahabad, India, causing severe waterlogging and creating huge difficulties for people and vehicles traveling. Among the crowd, a mother dog was carrying her puppy in her mouth in 30 cm deep water, walking with great effort.

After the monsoon, the water level of the Yamuna River rose. The mother dog worried that the rising water would flood her newborn puppy, so in the deep water, she carried the puppy in her mouth again and again to move it to safe high ground.

Seeing the delicate-looking mother dog protecting the little one so tenaciously, passersby felt heartbroken and shed tears.
